Versaplanetary 3:1 and others sold out

Hi,
Does anyone know where we could get 3:1 versaplanetary stages? They are sold out on VexPro until May, and are back ordered on West coast products. Does anyone have stages that we could buy/use (we work in San Jose, CA)?

You should try The Robot Space. They are also out of 3:1, but have most of the others in stock. The Robot Space

Thanks for the suggestion. The issue is that it's for our shooter, so an adjustment from 3:1 to 5:1 would give us problems with power for our shot.

What's your target RPM and what motor are you planning on using?

We're using 775pro motors on our competition robot (which has 3:1 gearboxes) - these gearboxes will be for our practice robot (we were running those motors at 60% with the 3:1 gearboxes to get a long-distance shot).

You can get similar performance running a CIM or MiniCIM at a 1:1 ratio (the performance characteristics of a 775pro are almost identical to a CIM when geared to the same RPM). If you need to use the planetary for output shaft or mounting reasons, you could also just get a CIM Adapter for it. Since you're currently only planing on running the 775s at 60% you have a bit of margin to play with as far as RPM goes.

Just a suggestion.

If you have the versa output sections I would just put a a mini cim on it with the adaptor and run it 1:1

Re: Versaplanetary 3:1 and others sold out

The VP uses mount holes on a 2" diameter circle. So does the CIM. This is not a coincidence, and the VP *can* be a drop-in replacement for a CIM and vice-versa.

As a result, you can use VEX's CIM-ile. It takes a 775PRO and gives it a spur gear reduction, and is a drop-in replacement for your VP's and CIM's. It gives you the output RPM of a CIM - slightly less than a 3:1 VP but definitely more than a 5:1 VP.

AndyMark sells a CIM-mounted encoder, if you need to replace the VP encoder.

We went to CIM-iles because one of our 3:1 reductions is a bit less efficient than the other, and we've stripped 2 of the VP 775 collars. These motors are so durn powerful...
