Go to Post By the looks, 1114 has already figured out both #1 and #2. They're still behind 71, who is just about done with their robot for the 2012 season, is getting driver practice for 2011, and is working on their robot designs for the 2013 water game. You're still way behind. - EricH [more]

Re: Top 5 teams for your state over the last 4 years

Connecticut:

1. 2067, good ol' Apple Pi always comes up with consistent and effective designs. Gotta love that swerve from recent years. Won NECMP with them last year. Their mentor who yodels in the stands is pretty great too.

2. 230, the Gaelhawks continue to bring impressive machines to the competition year after year. Had fun winning Hartford with them last year.

3. 177, unfortunately the Bobcats had a bit of a rough 2015 season, but from what I've seen of their bot this year so far, I'm expecting a mighty comeback from the two-time world champs.

4. 175, Buzz were district finalists last year, killed it in 2014, and had a good 2013 season as well. Happy a team like them hails from CT.

5. Hard to pick just one more for this list so I'll just include 4055, 228, 2168, 2170, and 2836 to wrap it up. I'm probably missing too many others, but that's what I've got for now.

No need to leave out your own team. 195 deserves to be on top of any Connecticut list.

Agreed. With robots like theirs, it'd be hard to push them out of the top five.

I wouldn't say that it's easier, considering that upstate teams rarely interact with Hudson Valley and NYC teams, but it's certainly a different playing field. Remember, TVR is usually just over HALF the size of NYC or SBPLI, making the technical chances much greater.

I am pretty sure your list is missing another member from that NECMP alliance, who for the past five years has done pretty well for themselves.

Re: Top 5 teams for your state over the last 4 years

Since South Carolina has played its only official event of 2016 featuring all but three teams (281, 1293, and 1319 are playing elsewhere), I'm defining four years as 2013-2016.

1) 4451, undisputed. Palmetto, Orlando, and Newton RAS in 2013, went back-to-back winning Palmetto in 2015 and 2016 (only three teams have), Palmetto EI in 2016, Palmetto WFFA in 2014, SCRIW in 2015, Orlando finalist in 2013 and 2015, and that's just the tip of the iceberg about those guys.
2) 343. They had a dry spell after a heap of silver from 2010-2012, but in 2014 they started being contenders again, winning SCRIW and parlaying that into winning the final Peachtree Regional and getting silver again in their subdivision at Championship. They just got silver again at Palmetto yesterday, and they should be a threat in Huntsville.
3) 1319. Won Georgia Southern Classic last year, six UL Industrial Safety awards in three years (they haven't played yet this year), and several other judged awards.

I'd say there are three teams that have a legitimate claim to the last two spots, but which two depends on the lens through which you view them:
* 3490. Two-time SCRIW champions (2013 and 2014), Palmetto 2014 finalists, regularly in the conversation.
* 4073. Palmetto 2015 winner, 2016 quarterfinalist, two technical awards.
* 4901. Orlando 2014 winner (probably a higher-quality win than 4073's, given the game and the bracket), Palmetto 2016 Dean's List Finalist.

I would say that 3996 should be fifth. Even though 3996 had a VERY strong year in 2015, they're 2014, 2013 and 2012 seasons weren't quite as strong. I just saw they're (3996) reveal for this season and I am certain that the are headed for another great season!

i put 3996 3rd because of their 2016 robot, and mostly because they were the first Qc team to make it to Einstein, let alone semi finals

While that stat is impressive, these rankings are top 5 teams for your state over the past 4 years as the OP intended.

I agree with all these and I would add 1876 Beachbotics, they, like 343 had a bit of a rough year in 2013, but they have been in the playoffs and done reasonably well since, no wins, but often on our radar.

3490, with some help from a few unknown teams (16 and 118), also won the 2016 rocket city regional and 343 was a quarter-finalist there.
