Go to Post I firmly believe that - those [GDC] committee members I have met, even briefly, certainly have a passion for what they are doing and want to give teams and students the best possible experiences. - GaryVoshol [more]

Thanks for the compliments! We made practice bumpers for a few reasons:
  1. We do have a practice robot (which is actually what is driving in the video), and we expect bumpers to get beat up in both practice and competition, so we figured it would help to spread the punishment around.
  2. Since this team had never built bumpers before, it was very useful to learn how to build them properly on the non-competition set. We learned a lot about how to wrap the fabric tight and how to place the numbers so that they're most visible and line up correctly!
  3. We were really inspired by the look of 118's "show bumpers" and thought it was a fantastic way to have something for when we show off the robot to sponsors and the community to help with team recognition and branding.
