Yea, i would rather be told flat out. Today somebody came up to me and asked me if i liked them...i told the truth and said no. Would I have treated her differently/the situation differently if she had said she liked me? I dont know, and i dont know how i would have reacted. She doesnt know how i would i have reacted, which is probably why she didnt ask me. All i have to say is im not out there to hurt anybody.

At a comp? You can't really go on a date unless you are both out of high school, cause then you don't have to obey school rules of staying in the comp area. I'd say just hang out with each other, if you are in the same hotel, that's cool too.

sorry if I'm changing the subject a little. But during the nyc regional a guy from team 549 came up to one of the only girls on my team and proceeded to tell her that he and his team thought she was the hottest girl at the competition. I looked inside and saw his whole team lined up against the wall out of the girls site, and all of them were peeking anxiously at the girl.
Funniest thing I saw all competition.

lol

As for dating at a competition, that's a no-no with FORD teams...it's in the rule book......and I'm sure a lot of teams are in compliance with their school rules...

Very true Each day of competition is structured and everyone has work ...sometimes though, if you're lucky, you'll be able to hang out for a while during scouting or during a lunch break...

IMO cheering in the stands is the best way to meet and get to know people. When you share the same cheering section as another team, you get to know them pretty well

Well, as I'm one of those people who comes home from a competition with several new friends' email addresses, let me just say this - just go up and talk to the person. you don't have to be a slacker to meet new people, you just need to have a robot/team that doesn't keep you busy in the pit 24/7. That can mean being a scout, being a "cheerleader" in the stands, whatever. Most of the time, just go up and say hi, if you're nervous about being rejected, bring a friend - that way if they're a jerk, you can laugh at them as you and your friend walk away. Most FIRSTers are pretty nice to people if you don't try to pull them away from the robot or a strategy session or something. Or, another one, look for the person sitting alone in the dining area, and ask if they mind if you join them. Usually, at least this is how I am, if they're sitting alone, they're either exhausted to the point of not being able to support rational thought, or hoping someone will come and talk to them.

The only time I'm able to get out of the pit is when I am at lunch. I occasionally meet some of the scouts and talk with them but I'm coordinating our pit area so I am really busy (you do this, you do that, DON'T BOTHER ME!). Most of the scouts that I meet are really nice and I make quick friends with them.

Scouting, I think, is the best way to meet people...also, during a match, cheering with an alliance works.

Is this off topic? I have that habit of going off topic...

Be weary of that. I speak from experience, even if you are within the "Rules of Co-habitiation" as my Model UN peeps would put it, people tend to get the wrong idea if you're hanging out with a member of the opposite sex in a hotel. Even if you're just watching a movie or playing cards, or something else innocent, people tend to talk, which can be disastrous to one's reputation (especially if her roommates come looking for her, and your teammates happen to walk by as all four of them leave your room)
