The near robot was disabled by the refs for having a bumper fall off traversing the rock wall (it was lying in the neutral zone next to the robot). One of the other two (1997) subsequently got stuck in the moat (high-centered on the second bar). The third robot could only cross group B and D defenses (too tall for the low bar) and got marooned in the neutral zone. They tried to push the dead robot over the rock wall, which had no effect. Then they cast about for a moment or two trying to find something to do. After a few moments, they drove over and tried to push their other partner out of the moat. This resulted in the tent formation you see in the picture. Since at that point the only things in contact with the ground were bumpers, they were stuck there for the rest of the match. |

Re: The Triple Tortuga is Contest born.
Isn't it also called "check all pockets for the missing pins"?

More like *toss broken pins in the "robot barf" box*
Refraining from further comment as I'm a key volunteer who isn't supposed to talk about on-field incidents. I hope I didn't say too much. |

Re: The Triple Tortuga is Contest born.
Are we running out of Triple Tortugas? As there are fewer and fewer first time event participants, I would think so but having attended NEFIRST's UMass Dartmouth event, I know that this is not the case.
We ALMOST had one in the Elims (and had the match ended mid match, I think we would have). Also, Paul Copioli tried to claim the a prize for a Triple Tortuga as Emcee at that same tournament, arguing that I saw it with my own eyes so no video was necessary. He had a point but I say, nay. The rules require a link, my personal retinas viewing the match not withstanding. And actually, even watching it live, I am a little skeptical -- I will need to review the tape to see if 88 just stopped driving or were they really tortugad (it was an amazing thing even if it wasn't a 3T). Sooo.... there are still Triple Tortuga prizes to be awarded. Share the link and win a gift card. Dr. Joe J. Last edited by Joe Johnson : 03-21-2016 at 11:58 AM. |

Re: The Triple Tortuga is Contest born.
My apologies to 3180, but this was one of the more humorous tortugas that I've seen this year... Not a triple, but funny all the same.

Re: The Triple Tortuga is Contest born.
So... ...is the contest over basically? No new entries for this week?
Still 2 $10 gift cards and a $50 gift card to be claimed (though a Double Triple Tortuga seems like it just isn't in the cards... ...but you never know). Dr. Joe J. |

Re: The Triple Tortuga is Contest born.
There are still quite a few teams in the PNW district who are going to be at their first two competitions in week 4 and 5... so maybe then?

I'll state here now that I believe that all of your triple Tortuga cards will be awarded before the world championship but the double triple Tortuga card will not. |

https://youtu.be/euNOPz8JMBM?t=3h43m19s I was going to submit this match as a triple tortuga...but it's not clear why the third red robot just sits there moving back and forth in the neutral zone. It crosses the low bar once and then I think it might get stuck on a ball at some point. Last edited by JohnFogarty : 03-22-2016 at 01:15 PM. |

Here's the video of Match 43: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xUgb8Ek2F0 At 1:00 we see 4151 open the Sally port for 3461. As 3461 goes through 4151 gets flipped upside down, going full wheels up. At 1:35 we see 3461 attempt to cross the rock wall when they bottom out and get their back wheels stuck and cannot finish getting over the wall. 2nd tortuga At 2 minutes 88 starts to push 3461 and eventually gets them over the rockwall, but their robot is still dead on the other side of the wall. 88 Attempts to still get over anyways, when they ride up on top of both the rockwall and 3461. They move back and forth for a few seconds before they stop moving at the end of the match. |
