Re: Funny things to ask for on the PA system

Some good ones I heard at the Utah Regional:

"Team ___ would like some pneumatic fluid"- we brought them an empty water bottle which they thanked us for and taped to their robot for the rest of the regional.

"Team 1619 is looking for a left-handed metric adjustable box wrench" - One team came over to our pit and asked if his adjustable was metric or US standard, another offered us some headlight fluid, and finally another team brought over a mystery tool that none of us figured out what it did.

Re: Funny things to ask for on the PA system

So today at our load-in for the St.Louis regional a few team members and I were joking around about this topic ( it happened to be raining slightly at the time) A few of us made a joke saying that if somehow our bag ripped open on the way to Chaifetz and got wet all we would have to do is request a giant vat of rice on the pa system! ( last year we also requested needle and thread after our bumpers were sliced by another robot.

Did you get re-inspected for making a modification to your robot?

After we brought them an empty water bottle (freshly filled with pneumatic fluid), they summarily attached it, re-inspected, and played through the playoffs with it as a part of their robot. It made my day when I looked onto the field and saw it actually on their robot!

At the northeastern district event last year, someone asked for a left handed screwdriver... One of the team leads ran into the pit and wrote "lefties only!" On it.

Re: Funny things to ask for on the PA system

my team had for a while a fake student called "Roth Jamison" (back in 2013). he was made up by one of our jokesters after they were reminded to not put any fake names on the team sign up sheet. He became a recurring thing, popping up all over the place, even getting his own Facebook page, and the practice robot named after him.

Long story short, we got the announcer in the stadium of the competition (not the pits, but during competitions) to announce for "Roth Jamison to please return to the pit area" at the Central washington Regional (I hope I'm remembering all of this correctly)

At the Indianapolis district event one of my fellow teammates was sent to the pits to find a bucket of pneumatic fluid. He came back twenty minutes later after not being able to find it. We enlightened him afterwards.

Re: Funny things to ask for on the PA system

We have had team members ask for a bocky, which was then announced to everyone in the pits (I'll hold off on the definition to keep this PG). IIRC the announcer's exact words were "Team 423 needs a bocky". Everyone who knew what she said was laughing hysterically.

Additionally, we have a mentor named David Delacato who likes to wander off with his mentor friends at competitions. Once when we needed him but couldn't find him we made an announcement "Team 423 is in need of a Delacato". Sadly he didn't hear the announcement himself, but his friend did and send him back to our pits.

Re: Funny things to ask for on the PA system

"Team 4920 needs a used mountain dew bottle." We actually did need it, to make our vision system see in green... and 2 teams actually helped us out!
Something our team does to teammates that are inexperienced with tools/ machining, is ask them to find some "Add-A-Thou" or aluminum magnets :') One guy spent his whole day searching for us...

With 10 minutes until pit closing on Thursday with our robot still having a ton of issues we asked for a functioning robot.
