Where are you shooting from and why?
Our team is currently debating shooting positions and I was wondering what other teams have to say about the matter.

Re: Where are you shooting from and why?
Our team is shooting from the batter to get very high accuracy from a point that is hard to defend. Always gotta go for the hard stop shooting location.

Re: Where are you shooting from and why?
Hi IronicDeadBird ,
When you say your team is debating shooting positions, could you explain why? I think wherever your robot has the highest shooting percentage should be where you shoot from unless under defense. Also keep in mind that if it takes really long to line up a shot you should go to a faster/better place! It's like a quarterback in the pocket, the line can only give him so much time and sometimes he's just gotta throw the 6 route! Glad to see inquiring minds, keep up the good work and I'm sure you lock your position in. Best Regards, RM |

Re: Where are you shooting from and why?
We shoot from the outerworks with the trajectory at greater than 54" when it leaves the robot space.
Hard to pass up untouchable and unblockable and close to where the balls are picked up. |

Re: Where are you shooting from and why?
We shoot from the outerworks. The main reason is that it removes a lot of possibility of defense. We can't be bumped out of position while lining up for a shot, and we can't be prevented from getting to our shooting position because we can cross directly to it. That being said, we're still working increasing accuracy from that distance.

Re: Where are you shooting from and why?
Right, the ball exits the robot perimeter at above 54 inches. So I'm not sure how another robot would block that.

Re: Where are you shooting from and why?
Oh above, my bad misread that if you exit at 54 inches at the front of the robot you can lean into their frame perimeter.

Re: Where are you shooting from and why?
The main issue is that our drivers never got time to practice lining up on the field. We're making sure they get plenty of practice before our second district. We also are trying to get vision targeting working, but I'm not sure that's going to happen.

Re: Where are you shooting from and why?
Both. At our first district - batter only while we worked out some bugs. Plus, we knew defense is always light early in the system.
Later.... outer works. We have the distance and are working on consistency. If you are still debating where you are shooting from, I HIGHLY recommend shooting with a ball that's been used a ton and then a ball that is brand new. You'll find a substantial difference between the two. |

![]() Outer works shot. Camera assisted. Pneumatic catapult on an arm. Also unblockable. |

Re: Where are you shooting from and why?
We're using a linear punch from outerworks range. Our shot is fairly accurate and we drew lots of fouls at GKC when we were contacted while in the outerworks.

Re: Where are you shooting from and why?
Originally we were shooting from the corner (spy box area), but eventually we moved to shooting from just under the low bar. It is quick to line up and very accurate, so it is very easy to take down the tower without defense.
We can move to the corner or batter to low or high goal if we need to due to defense or mechanical failures, however. |

Re: Where are you shooting from and why?
our robot, trogdor, can shoot high or low. when we go for low, we line ourselves directly up on the side of the tower and hug it. we've had extremely good accuracy with low goals, and when shooting high goals, we place ourself 13-14" from the high goal, a little distant from the defense we just crossed. my distance estimate may be off by quite a bit, however. sometimes we place ourselves directly on the skirt of the tower in front and shoot high.
