Championship Pits Area

We are finally going to champs, and have one question.

What is the area for the pits workspace?

In the manual it is stated that the workspace is about 10' x 10' x 10'... But that it can vary from event to event.

Can any teams provide us with the information of the real pit area at the championship?

Thanks...

Re: Championship Pits Area

I recall them being 10x10x10.

Though the ceiling is more like 20+ feet..

Best bet is to keep it at 10x10 at max.

Hope to see you there..

Good Luck & Aloha!

Re: Championship Pits Area

Yeah, one thing to note is that there's less walking room than most regional-going teams are probably used to. Last year in particular, the crowding was quite intense, and getting through the aisles could be a bit of a squeeze. So while there should be room for your 10x10 pit, there probably isn't room for many unnecessary team members. Just something to keep in mind.

Yeah the aisles are unsafely narrow, which is surprising given the amount of unused space there was between the pits and practice fields.

Re: Championship Pits Area

Bear in mind that, unlike most regionals, the field is quite a distance from your pit. You actually will have to travel time to queue in mind as well as get some practice fixing things on the move, should it become necessary.

Re: Championship Pits Area

Agreed, you can count on 10 x 10, and I *think* there is a 10' height limit in the rules somewhere (there was at one time...). But also as mentioned, unlike a regional, you and 599 of your closest friends are all on the same floor, so things are crowded - I don't feel it is unsafe, but yes it is congested.

The walk from the nearest pit to the dome floor is several (6?) hundred feet, and the furthest pit is maybe 500 feet further, so you may find it a challenge to have your robot in the pit for any length of time.

At least it's not Atlanta, where it seemed like the walk to the dome was a mile, plus altitude changes...
