And I'll be there for my first "support" event--in stripes for first time.

This regional has some of the best volunteers imaginable. Can't wait to kick this event off this morning!

The Planning Committee has been working very hard to make sure that this regional is going to be a great experience for all who attend!

The app has some other great features too!

https://appsto.re/us/1Ur4ab.i

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...rk.ocr_android

App Description:
The OCR app is designed to connect competition participants to the logistical functions of the FRC regional. With features consisting of parts requesting, match queuing, and live results, the Orange County Regional will be one to remember!
Parts requesting allows users to request parts remotely. When the part request is received by the pit admin, it can then be approved. Once approved, notifications are sent to teams so they can help fulfill the request.

Match queuing: By entering your team, the app will send a notification to you letting you know that your match is being queued.

Live results: Scores are recorded after every match and displayed accordingly.

Anyone at the regional can use this app! Feel free to try it now!
That is an absolutely amazing idea. This should be part of other regionals/district events. Do you have source code for it?

Re: Orange County Regional (2016)

3309 Friarbots developed the OC Regional app and so far it has been working very well!

And be sure to check out their website to help connect teams with mentors! Mentor Maps!

https://mentormaps.net

The planning committee approached them with a general idea, and they have turned the app into something that is helping to streamline the event and create a better team experience. They came up with adding the match queue section of the app.

Tomorrow the Queue section of the app goes online, and I know that it is going to be amazing!

We wanted the app idea to be restricted this year to only the OC Regional for testing purposes, and to set an example that the regional is always keeping the team experience in mind.

3309 has plans to make the app easily functional at future events, hopefully this offseason, at regionals all over California, and one day the world!

We are very open to feedback on how to further improve the app so please feel free to let me know if you have any ideas. I will be going around the pits tomorrow asking teams about how they feel about the app.

Re: Orange County Regional (2016)

Well, that was a pleasant surprise:

ON TIME through the day! (Meant that instead of the "hurry up and wolf your food down" lunch the volunteers have been getting at other events I've been to this year, we had time to relax, chit-chat, and wander a bit.) That's a HUGE thanks to the teams, queuers, and reset crew for keeping this event moving.

(And I really hope I didn't just jinx tomorrow...)

BTW, for anybody wondering what that odd smell was after matches finished today, and whether it was related to the smoke the MC was talking about: Yep, it was. Now you know what a fried BAG motor smells like (and I really wish I didn't know now... goes with "magic white smoke" as something to avoid). Just really happy that the extinguisher didn't have to make an appearance over there.

Re: Orange County Regional (2016)

And that huge thanks to the teams and crew for keeping the event on time now applies to today as well! When you're ahead enough for Cupid Shuffle AND Cotton-Eye Joe back to back...and it's still early in the day's qual matches.

Elims had the usual dose of excitement (including the third finals match), and when every team in the finals makes St. Louis (including TWO rookie teams!), that's just the icing on the cake for a great event.

To all the rest of the refs there, it was a great pleasure working with this crew. I'll see y'all next year if not before, I hope.

Re: Orange County Regional (2016)

I will echo what Erich stated OC was very enjoyable and for an Inaugural Regional I found it to be top notch. The volunteer crew was wonderful and everyone was great, Its a great venue too for any teams on the fence about it next year. Does get a bit warm but other than that it was great. Easy parking, nice outside areas, plenty of food, great Pit area and a nice practice field elevated from actual Pits...the arena had nice seating too. Thanks to Tigears for hosting it.

I thought all the teams did an excellent job and that rookies teams were amazing. Lots of rookies going to St Louis congratulations. Very competitive throughout.

The finals were...

Finals 3..
3309 3476 6220 (134)
5124 1836 6072 (122)

Very hard fought finals was anyone's game in the end, glad they all get to go. Good luck in WC's.
