Re: How old is your oldest robot

All of our 21 robots but two can be retrieved from storage in a day or two. 1996 was mostly plywood and we didn't think to keep it. Our 1997 robot is on display at First HQ. It is the one that goes up to the ceiling (actually can climb over 15 ft.). It does not have 111 on the side as that was before permanent team numbers were assigned. 2006 is in need of some TLC as we have used for demos for years. 2013 was tuned up last night for a demo coming up.

We barely have storage space for a single season, so our oldest robot was built in 2016.

Re: How old is your oldest robot

Our oldest robot is from 2005, and I believe that it is in near working order. I know we ran it a year or two ago.

We no longer have 2006 (scrapped because it was pretty much gutted and wasn't particularly good in the first place) or 2010 (I don't want to talk about it) but other than that we have the rest of our robots from 2005 on, and I think we could get them all into working order within an afternoon.

Re: How old is your oldest robot

Our latest bot is 2016, everything else has been scrapped for spare parts. We kept our 2014 bot around for a while because after the season we painted it and made it look like Gary the snail. While it was a fun show bot it wasn't our best creation and broke down constantly so we decided it was best to scrap it.

Re: How old is your oldest robot

Most of our previous year robots are in pieces, but I assume they could be reassembled and made to work (maybe). We still have our rookie 2007 robot (highest rookie seed [2nd] and Rookie All-Star award winner in Boston), and our 2015 robot is still intact.

Re: How old is your oldest robot

1058's 2003 (rookie year) frame has been repurposed into a couch robot for demos. 2008 is the oldest one mechanically intact, 2010 is the oldest functional one.

229 uses 2013 for demos, but I believe there are older ones in a storage space.

Re: How old is your oldest robot

228's 2012 robot is the only one that is still together and fully functional. Finished dismantiling the 2013 and 2015 robots at the beginning of this build season. I'm hoping we'll keep the 2016 robot together for awhile - it's really easy to transport and it's got some cooler features for demos and stuff.

Re: How old is your oldest robot

We have 2015 that just needs the Rio and a couple Jags put on and would be ready within a day if we needed to compete. We have some parts left from 2014 but this is basically the first year we have used all new parts.

Re: How old is your oldest robot

1102 still has my 2010 FTC robot running.

4901 has Sandstorm I and it still can run. It would just have to be fixed. (2014) Then I think we will be keeping this year's model Sandstorm III around for quite some time.

We completely repurposed our robot from last year to our robot this year. Haha so the only one we have is our current 2016 robot.

I'm going to wait for clarification on what "completely repurposed our robot" means before frowning too hard at you. If you removed unmodified commercially available components and reused them this year, that's fine. But if you actually turned last year's robot into the one you're competing with this year, or if you are just reusing fabricated assemblies from the old robot, that's a problem.

Re: How old is your oldest robot

I have the 2002 Einstein Division Winner/ Championship Finalist alliance captain team's robot in somewhat OK, though slightly rusty condition (barn find?). I would need new drill motors to get it working.
2004 was the team's (311) last year, and their 2004 robot has been rebuilt with a cRio by the mentor of 871 who was a member of 311 in 2004.

We've had practice robots every year since 2007, but their components are transferred to the next years practice robot or used as spares.

We plan to refurbish 2005 and 2008 during off season. (luckily, we still have a massive trackball that we can use to demo)
I've also heard rumors that one or two of the very very early BeachBots (or pre-BeachBots) (robots, not team members) are or were in storage at a sponsor's facility. It's been a while since I heard those rumors, though... the robots are older than you (no, I'm not kidding--the robots in question were built in the late 1990s) and wouldn't have their control systems (FIRST policy at the time was to send the systems back every year).

Re: How old is your oldest robot

2410's oldest running robot is from Breakaway, 2010. She's been gutted and had her electrical components replaced, but mechanically she's still the same. After that, the rebuild for 2013 is functional (I personally more or less destroyed the robot from the actual season during the Razorback regional that year...I drove a bit aggressively), and I think the frame of our 2012 robot is still around somewhere...
