How Many Teams At Worlds in St. Louis?

Does anyone have a rough idea of how many teams will be attending worlds in St. Louis? Thanks for your time!

Roughly 600 split up into 8 divisions of 75.

Re: How Many Teams At Worlds in St. Louis?

Is there any difference between the divisions, or are they just used to separate the teams into manageable sized groups for qualifications etc.?

Pretty much they're just to make things manageable. Think of each division as a regional (albeit a rather large one), and then each division winner plays in a playoff to find the World Champion alliance.

Some divisions will be "tougher" than others, but that's more perception than anything else.

To be slightly more pedantic, there's 4 divisions of approximately 150 teams, each of which is comprised of 2 subdivisions of approximately 75 teams.

This becomes important for awards, which are at a divisional level rather than subdivisional.

Re: How Many Teams At Worlds in St. Louis?

Thanks so much for the quick responses everyone!

I have one more question. Forgive me if this should have been a separate thread, I'm still new to this.

Do they need to have translators at worlds? With that many teams coming it seems like not all of them would necessarily speak English.
Thanks,
sunny69

They don't typically need translators, as at least one or two members or mentors of a team would speak English. However, translators have been available previously for judging sessions.

Most teams usually have at least one member that speaks english at the pits. However, other teams can help translate for you while they may have translators at hand. I can't say for sure because at Champs last year, our division had only 6 Candian and two Mexican teams. So we didn't have much of an issue.

There is 2 hours of Practice Matches for each field. That means that each team gets one practice match (a lucky 3 may get 2). That is basically your chance to connect to the field, and you should NOT miss it, even if your robot can't drive. If it can turn on and connect, go to your scheduled practice match.
