Might be a stupid question, but when you say you have the files on the RIO, does that mean that you have built and installed them, or just have them?

Edit: Are you sure that OpenKinect allows for using the Kinect as a webcam? A cursory glance through the site yields nothing to that end.

You may have to check the Linux kernel version on the RIO. I don't know what it is offhand.
