Kinect on RoboRIO not showing up as "camX"
I'm trying to use the kinect on the RoboRIO but it is showing up as "USB0" in the NI Web interface instead of "cam0/1/2/3". I have the libfreenect files on the roborio, not sure if this would affect how the RoboRio will see the USB device when it's connected? I need to have it show up as a cam device instead of USB to use it with the camera server. Unless there is a way to use USB device with the camera server.

Re: Kinect on RoboRIO not showing up as "camX"
Might be a stupid question, but when you say you have the files on the RIO, does that mean that you have built and installed them, or just have them?
Edit: Are you sure that OpenKinect allows for using the Kinect as a webcam? A cursory glance through the site yields nothing to that end. Edit 2: Found it: https://openkinect.org/wiki/FAQ#Is_i...rd _webcam.3F You may have to check the Linux kernel version on the RIO. I don't know what it is offhand. Re: Kinect on RoboRIO not showing up as "camX"
I haven't been able to confirm on my own that it can be used as a webcam but I have seen other teams use the Kinect on the 2016 robot and I've seen the images stremed back to the Smart Dashboard. So I would guess it does. I have their code as well and I haven't been successful in getting the data to the dashboard yet.
The files I put on there are the libfreenect.so files. The kinect libraries look for these libraries on the RoboRIO |

Re: Kinect on RoboRIO not showing up as "camX"
The roborio should have a driver for the rgb camera already. Does the video0 device appear when you have the Kinect plugged in?
To check: Code:
ls /dev | grep video |

Re: Kinect on RoboRIO not showing up as "camX"
I will check that out when I get back in front of the robot.
I really don't even technically need the Kinect to stream back to the dashboard. We have a have a separate webcam that we enable during teleop that the drivers can use. The Kinect is really just supposed to give us positioning help for shooting at the goal. But getting it to the dashboard (which I've seen done) will help us figure out the use of it a bit better. |
