Newton Match 100

Quals 100 on Newton. Amazing!

5885 1519 254 vs. 118 122 4122

1519, 254 and 118 are all battling to stay in the hunt for one of the top seeds.

5885 was dead for the match.

1519 and 254 should have the match in hand. 118 is good but 122 and 4122 just didn't have the fire power to keep up... ...or so you would think.

Poofs decide they need to get 5885 onto the batter.

They manage to push the 5885 over the mote and onto the batter, but those pesky PC shields on the batter (why do we even have those things?) gives them some trouble, 5885 is not fully on. After some, lets just say, "vigorous" pushing, 5885 ends up fully on the batter. 1519 and the part of Poofs that wasn't devoted to pushing 5885 weakened the tower. All 3 get on the batter as time runs out for the challenge!

Final score 140 to 139. Just one point. And what a difference that one one point made.

254 jumps to 3rd Rank on Newton just 3 RPs behind Theory6 and and 2 RPs behind H.O.T. (Mechanical Mayhem jumped to 5. Robonauts 13th 6 points behind the leader with only 2 matches to go).

That was a match for the ages.

Dr. Joe J.

I was watching the match live on FRC's gamesense twitch page. The match was truly amazing. The way the poofs handled that impossible situation truly shows why they are ranked so highly among FIRST teams. Here is a link to the VOD for the match! https://www.twitch.tv/frcgamesense/v/63530268?t=2h32m

That is absolutely amazing. The time management between pushing and shooting was just perfect. I like that they waited to get them on the batter and instead shot a couple high goals to pass the time.

Yea, I don't know how much they analyzed it in the heat of the moment but that's exactly what they seemed to do. They waited till they had a sizable point advantage to be able to take the risk of pushing the robot across. Once they got the robot across they were still three boulders away from weakening the tower. So, they went back to notching the tower down while waiting for the defender to leave the courtyard or they would be able to get foul points in the last 20 seconds. The truly played the perfect role in that match.

T'was the Rock Wall, not the moat. 254 dealing with freeing 5885 from the batter dividers was yet another hurdle that they overcame to get this 1 point victory.

This would have been THE ultimate drive team exhibition of Stronghold until 330 righted their Robot in the semifinals of the Einstein PLAYOFFS.
