Bad luck? They lost. It's that simple. It's not like there were random number generators determining the scores.

217-3476-4678-188 beat the #1, #2, and #3 seeds in Newton. Clearly the #7 alliance just got lucky. What a shame. /s

I didn't say that the #7 alliance got lucky. I was just saying that 708 falling over in match 1 was bad luck for the #1 alliance. The #7 alliance deserves to be on Einstein. Before you guys jump to conclusions on what I said please read and understand what I wrote.

What was the reason for the DQ in the semi finals?

I believe in intuition and inspiration. Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution. It is, strictly speaking, a real factor in scientific research.

Re: 2016 Newton Subdivision

I have to say, I'm really impressed with 217. Going from being the second pick of the sixteenth seed in MSC to being the seventh seeded alliance captain that bests some of the greatest robots this year is not easy. Congrats to them, and to 3476, 4678, and 188! Well done!

Thank you very much, that means a lot. We had some rough tournaments at the start of the year but things finally came together for us on Newton. We had an absolutely fantastic alliance and finally managed to play near our best. It was a great feeling.

By our list (weighing things like average boulders, max boulders, hang points, and auto points, as well as driving ability/subjectivity) they were easily a top 8 pick at MSC if not higher. I firmly stand by what I've said to a few people in that they were one of the more slept on teams this year.

Watching them and the rest of their alliance play on Einstein and hang right there with an alliance that had as good a shot at a world championship, in my opinion, as anyone was very impressive.

Thanks, that had a wacky title on it, so I missed what it was about.

Almost all of 1676's Newton full-field footage is now uploaded and can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...9R14DZnbqgem-I. The only videos missing are those of Qualification Matches 8 and 11-24, but I believe most of those were hastily recorded elsewhere while our camera temporarily went berserk. The Newton-Hopper Awards Ceremony and Newton Alliance Selections can also be found in that playlist, and all of our Einstein full-field footage and videos of the Opening Ceremonies and Closing Awards Ceremonies can be found in our Einstein playlist here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...FuMKI-pN-1gaSn. Enjoy!

Re: 2016 Newton Subdivision

Being on the winning alliance for Newton was a fabulous experience. Never in our wildest dreams did we expect to be on the winning alliance of such a high-caliber division. Team 4678 is very grateful to teams 217, 3476 and 188 for being our partners in this wonderful experience.

Being the 3rd member of the alliance, we were very curious how well we contributed to the level of scoring our alliance was able to achieve. We know that it's usually the top 2 teams that are responsible for the majority of the points scored in a match. We suspected that might have been a bit different with our alliance and the analysis of the video footage would suggest that is how we managed to succeed on the Newton field.

We may have gotten a few things wrong in our analysis of the video footage but we think we got it pretty close. Have a look at the spreadsheet for the details. It turns out 217, 3476 and 4678 were practically equal. Each team contributed an average of very close to 60 points per game not including the breach and capture points.
