The most epic matches of all time

In my 7 years of FRC, Einstein 2016 semi final 1 match 2 ("The 330 match") was the most exciting match I have ever seen.

Re: The most epic matches of all time

My go to (prior to the match you mentioned) has long been Archimedes 2012 Finals 3:

http://www.thebluealliance.com/match/2012arc_f1m3

It has many of the same elements: down to the wire finish, interesting strategic play, a (near) victorious recovery, nail biting suspense, and great robots (I would argue 4 of the top 10 from that year).

I always think watching that match: had 2826 decided to keep shooting instead and the red alliance just double balanced, the result likely would have reversed. Of course hindsight is always 20-20, but I half expected the red alliance to recognize this possibility before the match while watching from home and they didn't take advantage of the opportunity.

It really is a shame though that Einstein was spoiled shortly thereafter, but at least there was this matchup!

I'll go with the 2014 Einstein finals auto battles between 1114 and 254. I still watch those matches occasionally.

Re: The most epic matches of all time

One of my all-time favorite matches is IRI 2012 Quarterfinal 4 Match 1. It was the red alliance of 68, 469, 125 (and 1676) versus the blue alliance of 1023, 33, 51 (and 330). Both alliances were tied up going into the end-game and then went to triple balance. Both succeeded, with a score of 100-100 and no more movement on the field. Then, the red human player scored an across-the-field 2 point shot, making it 102-100. And then the blue human player scored a 3 point shot, making it 102-103. But then the same red human player scored ANOTHER 2 point shot, earning red the win with a final score of 104-103. Unfortunately red went on to lose the next two quarterfinal matches, but man was that a crazy match. Luckily there was video recorded field-side: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqJJnTFFEmg

Re: The most epic matches of all time

GTRW Finals Match 1 and it's subsequent matches, not only because of the incredible play between the two best of friends, but for Karthik's history lesson that informed the uninformed about just how crazy it was that 1114 and 2056 were staring each other down.

Maybe more historic and sentimental to me than it is "epic".

I swear, people were cheering more loudly for this than the finals matches. It was such a massive upset.
