TRI Team Update #1 (Rule changes, team list, etc)

1. Teams
2. Payment
3. Volunteers
4. Programming/Design Help Wanted
5. Rule Changes
6. Further Updates

1. Teams
Thank you to everyone that signed up to come to TRI. We can't wait to have you here.
Full Team Roster is located on our website spectrum3847.org/TRI
We have 42 teams currently signed up. We also have several on the wait list to sign up as well.

Because of the large reaction to this event we are going to accommodate all 42 teams that signed up before the deadline. If you don't believe that you will be able to attend please let us know ASAP so we can invite one of the waiting teams.

2. Payment

Texas Workforce Commission and FIRST in Texas will not be able to help with the cost of the event this year.

Registration is $250 per team.

Please make checks payable to
St. Agnes Academy
Memo Line: Engineering Team and your team number.

Send Checks to
St. Agnes Academy
8900 Bellaire Blvd.
Houston, TX, 77036

Please have checks mailed no later than May 27th. If you need an invoice please email me and I'll make one up for you. We prefer not to take any purchase orders.

If the registration cost is going to be a burden on your team please reach out to us and we will try to make it work however we can. We want to teams to grow and improve and off-season events are one of the best ways to accomplish that.

3. Volunteers
We need more volunteers for TRI. We've already had several sign up but we are going to need more to make this event run smoothly. We are also looking to train volunteers through out the event as well so even if you have limited experience please sign up. Referee's scorekeeper, Announcing, MC, Audio, Video Production, social media, and much more all need more people to help staff the event.

Please have anyone interested sign up here http://trivolunteer.spectrum3847.org/

4. Programming\Design Help Wanted
Prior to the event there are a few tasks that we could use help with from experienced programmers. If you or anyone on your team is interested there are several applications that we would like to make that could possibly make the event AV production run smoother. Please email me if you are interested. Some examples include automated instant replay system, OCR of live video, screen overlay graphics and animations, and more.

5. Rule Changes
The list of TRI rule changes are detailed at this link. Please send us any comments or concerns.

6. Further Updates
More information will be coming about, pre-order lunches, team surveys, and more.

For each level of the playoff tournament each of the 4 robots on an alliance must play either in the 1st or 2nd match of that alliance’s matches.
Now this is an interesting rule (and not in a bad way).

It's basically the same rule we used to have with 3 team alliances in 2v2 games and the same rule that still exists in VEX, etc.

Re: TRI Team Update #1 (Rule changes, team list, etc)

But this is the best rule

Quote:
In the case where a playoff MATCH ends with the score of each ALLIANCE being equal the match will be replayed. The tiebreaker scoring detailed in 5.4.4 will not be in effect at TRI.
With that and the interesting Video Review trial, someone please take me to Texas.

Re: TRI Team Update #1 (Rule changes, team list, etc)

I really enjoy all of these rule changes and especially the static defenses. I think I suggested that in the IRI rule change thread and am glad you are doing it in favor for more matches for teams.

Glad to see video review being implemented for playoffs. It'll be Intresting to see how this plays out after all of the recent discussion on the topic.

No rough terrain? Not even as a substitute?

Re: TRI Team Update #1 (Rule changes, team list, etc)

The requirement for a fourth robot to compete in either the first or second match is an interesting rule...

Even though this is for a fun off season event, do you plan on having a similar clarification that I know VEX had (at least years ago when I competed) that the lower ranked alliance was required to place robots first if there was an issue?

This was to prevent the lower ranked team from playing their weakest lineup in the first match to try and win the second easily and force a tiebreaking third. Or as we called it in tennis, 'sandbagging'.

Honestly I forgot about it. Probably need to change that. Assuming the CDF is the one that breaks replacing it with rough terrain would make for a very open field so I'm not sure that we want it as the first substitute.

Do you have an idea of what kind of system you're trying to implement? I'm working on a system for our offseason competition that incorporates basic instant replay using the system we already have. I plan to work on it after next Tuesday when I'll have more time and I want to get it done by early June. Also, what FMS are you using? (Official, Chezy Arena, etc.) Doing the screen overlay, graphics, animations, etc. is built into Chezy Arena but you would need the hardware for that in order to run it as well as someone who knows how to set it up.

EDIT: If you don't want to flood this thread with technical discussion about your system, feel free to PM me.
