They were actually quarter-finalists at Lake Superior, but had more than enough potential to take down the 2nd seed in Quarters, they nearly did.. Anyway I agree that 3102 and 6175 also deserve to be mentioned- both of them had efficient low goal bots that were simple, but effective at this years game. I was glad 3102 won their first regional this year, definitely was long awaited for them. 6175 was even picked at champs this years. Also, I can't leave out 4536 either. They also had an efficient low goal bot that was simple yet effective.

In terms of total points scored, I think 25 wins here. With their low goal auto and consistent climb, they were MAR's best low goaler and one of the best this year. However, their drive train is relatively slow, putting a limit on how many cycles they can complete compared to other low goal cyclers (though it does give them a ton of pushing power).

My vote for fastest low goaler goes to 5624. They really are fast, putting in as many as ten low goals a match. As Ryan mentioned, they and 223 set the record for most teleop low goals in a match this year. They won two events on the #7 alliance this year as first pick. I was floored to see them go unpicked at MAR Champs and Archimedes, especially when some alliances failed to capture after not picking a robot that can take down the tower by itself.

Both robots are incredibly effective, and 1257 was fortunate to play in elims with both of them this season.

Obviously, this is going to be a little biased here, but I think our bot this year was a really strong low goaler, especially after we fixed our intake issue. Once we got the issues tweaked, I could easily put in 7 low goals (more if I focused only on them) while destroying 2-3 defenses, by ourselves. That combined with the fact that we never broke down, makes me believe it was a strong low goaler.

These guys were consistently scoring with and competing against some of the best high goal robots in the world and managed to play to their level and then some. Utterly impressive for a low goal + hang strategy.

1775 deserves a mention here as well. I remember going into Iowa confident that we would be the best low goal robot, but was then shocked to discover that they could weaken the tower by themselves, while we struggled to score 4.

They won Kansas City and then ranked third and were finalists at Iowa, which had no shortage of good high goalers.

Watching them drive in eliminations was like watching art. It was just phenomenal how consistently aware and smooth their drivers were.

Death by low goal is pretty much how 3506 did well at all of our events. Low goals fed by our human player over the second defense plus hanging. If we ever ran into a high goal robot we simply had a strategy in place to shut them down. With the level of play in NC, it worked every single time.

In terms of Chesapeake, our home district, 836 and 1418 definitely stole the show in terms of low-goal capability.

Yet, what really intrigued me was that between Finals 1 and 2, there were 0 high goals scored, and there wasn't a bot out there on the field that could score a high goal. Although this was in part due to our alliance having to bring in a backup bot, such an experience really highlights the potential effectiveness of low-goal bots this year.

Another vote for 3683 - Team DAVE out of Waterloo, Ontario.

They could comfortably solo a tower take-down with 10+ low goals, and hang at the end of a match. They could solo breach every defense, including category Cs. Their crossing speeds were elite.

In conjunction with how much ball control advantage they gave their alliance, they were a very dangerous robot. I think a lot of teams got caught underestimating them because they were a low-goal robot.

This is one of those robots that I wish more teams took a good look at, especially low to medium resource teams. It is a great example of how to build a really successful robot by choosing to do something simple extremely well.

Thanks! That was before we got our climber running too Pittsburgh is definitely a possibility for 2017, pending what they decide to do with Ontario districts.

The low goal strategy was a big gamble. We knew that eventually high goal shooters would be able to put up points that would overtake us, but we figured that in early regionals at least, a low goal robot would be able to run more cycles, and therefore pickup more breach and capture ranking points. The nice surprise was that (after extra practice and the addition of an auto ball) we were able to seed pretty high through Waterloo and into Champs too. For whatever reason, Stronghold kept things pretty balanced between the low goal and high goal right to the end.

I'll put my vote down for Team Dave 3683 as well. They shared our practice field, and we watched them drive rings around the defenses, scoring 7 or 8 "combined cycles" (crossing a new defense every second time). Throw in an auto ball and a fast climb, and they could hold their own against most high-goal shooters - definitely an inspiration for our team.

i was mostly watching MAR, but they do have some incredibly strong low goal robots.

5624 was by far one of the most capable in terms of just low goaling, taking down the tower solo at their bridgewater event nearly every match. They were also with the alliance that set the record for most tele-op low goals and even scoring 10 low goals themselves.

1257 was a fast and capable breecher bot and low goaler at all of their events. they were able to consistently breech every match and capture in most of them. they took down the defenses faster than most robots and could cycle to the low goal incredibly quick

25 is incredibly fast at the low goal, but they also had a very consistent scaler to bring to the table. they could cycle 6-7 boulders, but like 1257 was also a solid breecher in a pinch. their scaler was the icing on the cake because it was very fast and very consistent.

All 3 did incredibly at worlds, with 25 being an alliance captain on curie, 1257 playing in the Archimedes semifinals, and 5624 going unpicked in Archimedes which was unfortunate as they could still put 4-6 low goals with shut down defense being played.

1425 Error Code Xero ranked 2nd in Hopper amidst 3 high goal shooters that put in as many as 10 high goals each. They had the highest low goal OPR of all teams.

5803 Apex got to 4th on Curie as a rookie, and ranked 1st at the PNW champs.
