Robot in Nutcracker

Which team was mentioned to have had their robot in the Nutcracker, and what did their robot do in the ballet?

I think it was for the imagery award, but i could be wrong. From the usfirst site, 68 won that, so i think i'm wrong.

My next bet would be the team spirit. That was won by 222 from PA, and i think that the the nutcracker was from PA. Not sure again tho.

yep yep!

We are the ballet team.....and to also answer why Weedie picked it up is because due to budget and quick scheduling to get to nationals, our team would have missed the plane if they stayed for the awards.....we thank team 84, our sister team for receiving the award on our behalf. any questions about the ballet, PM me and I'll tell you the whole story

ok well, this goes back the the 2002 nationals. A couple from the area was at disney and they happened to see people with our school name on their shirts....Well the couple helps out with a ballet in the area. Every year this ballet group puts on a free show of the nutcrakcer and they had an interesting situation for us. The one scene there is an angle that comes out on stage and the person needs to look like they are floating. Previously, they used a wheel chair base and the person controlling it hid under the angel's dress and he was cued from some one on stage....well, these people tracked us down and asked us if there was anyway we could control the wheelchair for them. We donated one of our robot interfaces and joysticks to them and we programmed everythign so that the guy could no remotely control the wheel chair. The wheel chair had to carry two people and it had to be smooth movement. We gave them exactly what they wanted and the show went flawlessly! So that's the story of the nutcracker.Cliff

*chuckle* That's funny. Our team hypothesized your robot was a toy in "that" scene.

My daughter, robot chick, co-driver, and captain of our team, dates a professional ballet dancer. We told him his mission is to get us in the nutcracker.

Thank you for telling me. Very cool!

yeah... 84 was proud to accept the award on behalf of 222. You guys are awesome.... great bot.. and excellent sprtsmanship. Bob and I turned around from the '2 person per team section' looked up into the stands to find 222 sitting with 84... but 222 was gone!... everyone was yelling and pointing at us to go up on stage to accept it for them.... I am attending PSU W-B in the fall... and plan on working with our sister team next year.

222... if you had continued on in the finals... would you have skipped the flight back home? Congrats on an amazing year.. and looking forward to PARC.

Bah...too bad I didn't catch this thread 30 minutes earlier. I would have said that we really wanted _any_ award...so we just went up and grabbed it. That would have been a much better story. Gracious Professionalism...pfft...to the wind, I say! Too bad 222 didn't win the Chairman's

Also, imagine if a team sitting on the second story of the stadium had won the chairmans or something...it would have been 15 minutes or so before the team made it to the stage. I can imagine there would have been some collapsing of exhausted students/adults

(Did anyone else find it kind of funny that paper airplanes were flying around while Chuck Yeagar was speaking? )

yeah, at our meeting tonight, our advisor was joking(well, not really) about how if we had gotten into the finals, we'd be staying in a motel, trying to find a flight home. I don't think the Hyatt would have let us stay another night or two (although, I would have loved it).

Anyway...for those of you who don't know the story...

we had to leave the arena around 4:30 so we could stop by the hotel, get our bags, and get to the airport for our 8:30 flight. We're in the pit's...getting our things together...watching the monitors...and we hear Woody reading off the team spirit award. We hear him say "this year's team spirit award goes to team 222" and we all just start breaking out in an odd combo of excitement of anger. we knew that we wouldn't make it to the stadium in a reasonable amount of time, so our advisor tries hi-jacking one of the stadium golf-carts to get us over there but the guy's like "no way, I'm not headed over there!" We hear woody again "Team 222, are you out there? Give us a sign!" at that point we just sorta kicked ourselves and headed out to the bus in high spirits. You definately had to be in the pits to fully enjoy the humor of the whole situation.

You should look up some former MOE members at Penn State. I know Dave O'Brien (DaveO'B365) wants to get somthing going.

I was wondering where you were for that award. I was standing up claping my stix for you but it got kinda akward after you didnt show up for 2 min.

Here is the website.... There was a link to it on our website during the winter season but we deleted it...

Here it is:

http://www.tahsroboticsteam.org/old/nutcracker.htm

There are pictures and the full story!!!

We had to use Battle Bot technology in order to run the 24 volt system.. We had to buy 2 24 volt speed controllers and 24 volt relay to control the brakes. We took the 2000 robot controller and wired it to one of the 12 volt batteries. From there we just wired everything up!! The cool thing is that one of our Machinist/Wheelchair quality controller..... works for Pride Mobility which made the wheelchair. He had to get us a really old wiring harness to wire up the motors.

The TIGERTRONS accually attended the one Nutcracker play as a field trip LOL

We let the guy from the Ballet drive it though....... (its not a good thing to let robot drivers on stage)

Bad Brad

yeah

The link posted above is the link showing our ballet creation. As far as the hand signal goes, that was our 2 2 2 symbol. Thanks for cheering as we weren't too loud with our limited crowd.
