Selling KOP Items for Profit
Our team is wondering if there are any explicit or implicit rules from FIRST that say we cannot sell an item from an old KOP. We are thinking about selling the Kinect from 2012.
Also, we want to sell the Ekocycle printer we won last year so we can buy or build a better 3d printer. Are there any rules against this? Thanks, Team 2855 |

Re: Selling KOP Items for Profit
Seems I've heard this asked before. But i'm not going to search for old answers.
In my opinion, the items are donated to the team so they can use them. However, if a team can't use stuff in the KoP, selling the items for funds to use on TEAM purchases doesn't feel wrong. |

Re: Selling KOP Items for Profit
I am not aware of any such rules, and I don't see a big problem with it. To me, the team has effectively "bought" the item with their registration payment to FIRST, and thereby owns it, and it is then theirs to do with as they please. Now, if you had some kind of deal going where you were buying roboRIOs at FRC price and turning around and selling them by the dozens to industry partners for use in their industrial automation systems, we might start to have an issue.

Re: Selling KOP Items for Profit
Depending on who the team is associated with a school district might have an objection to this.
If the funds used for the registration/KOP were paid for by the school. Then team goes and sells the parts. You could understand the argument for selling school properties. |

Re: Selling KOP Items for Profit
We sold our cube printer from the lottery. No regrets.
