Michigan State Championship 2017 Dates

Seems like an easy question but I'm can't seem to find the dates for next year (2017).

Does anybody know which weekend the competition is held on?

It's unlikely anybody who absolutely knows (someone who can confirm a contract signed with a venue) will respond here. However, it's extremely likely that it'll take place the weekend of April 14th.

The dates of competitions for next year haven't been posted yet, except for Champs... mostly because most of them don't have signed contracts yet! We'll probably see them start to get posted in the next month or two.

That said, it's probably a good bet to plan on it being week 7.

My curiosity is about the 2017 venue. As has been hashed out in some previous threads, the CMP growth from 600 teams to 800 teams combined with proportionally giving those slots to districts means that Michigan might be sending about 100 teams to CMP-St. Louis, ie everyone at the current MSC (and DeltaPlex can't hold more teams).

So, new bigger venue? 2 venues? If the latter, I would not be surprised by DeltaPlex and EMU-Convocation Center.

Finding a venue to hold 102 or more is very difficult. If someone knows of a venue with the ability to hold 2 full fields, over 6000 fans, parking for all, pits for over 102 teams, I would be interested to hear about.

I have gone through all of the venues in my head and cannot think of one other than Ford Field that would have the capacity for this and at a decent price.

I think an even more interesting question (to me) is, if FiM expands MSC to 120 or 140 (or even 160), will it be two separate divisions or one giant mega-division? 119+ teams is a LOT of teams to scout, dare I say, borderline too many?

On second thought DeVos place could be good, I'm sure they have risers and they could set up the fields in the exhibit halls, and have the pits in the ballrooms. Van Andel has field and people space, but the pts would be hard to locate.

I did hear from somewhere that they were going to move to a new location starting in 2017, so who knows, I don't remember where I saw it so I'd take it as a grain of salt, but I am surprised they haven't chosen/ announced a location yet, considering how big of a change it could be for the logistics of the event

My first and favorite option is easy one. Ford Field.

Case could be made to use Cobo also.

Starting 2018 of course.

For 2017 I think it will be similar to the 2014 season where almost everyone from States went to Champs.

According to VIMS the dates are Week 7 (April 12th - 15th). Which doesn't surprise me, to keep our number of events per weekend low (At 4 ).
As for the Venue, I have no idea but with the perspective increase we will most likely need something bigger or split. But which way we go who knows?...

Guess will find out around kickoff.

I suppose 79 teams out of 102 counts as "almost everyone". See the chart below:



I think 2017 Michigan champs is actually going to be on the more competitive side.

My numbers were based before the updates stating how the allocation would change.
