Over the next two months, most of the new districts should be announced.

What percentage of teams will be districts in 2017?

I'm a little surprised at how quickly this moves. I had heard rumblings of Ontario going to districts about a month ago - someone on a Quebec team made an offhand remark about not being able to go to Ontario anymore due to Ontario going to districts. I didn't put much stock in the comment at the time thinking, surely if that were true, we'd be notified well beforehand.

I remember being told by team members and friends that districts would be next year in 2012

With strong team growth in districts, districts will likely grow to over 50% of all FRC teams in 2017.

Does that strong team growth really apply outside of Michigan? Are other districts ahead or behind of the regional growth rates?

This is a really good question.

The growing number of teams in Michigan has been fueled by state money, and made sustainable by parallel growth in the volunteer corps and local business support for new district competitions. Underlying both of these is the growing network of sustainable, strong teams -- both in outreach impact and on-field competitiveness.

I think this sustainable growth can and will be replicated in other places.
