What is with all of the spam comments?

This is really just a question I'm having not so much to bring attention to it. I feel like I'm missing some bit of information as to why all of a sudden this has started. It is getting kinda annoying to say the least, so if some can fill me in on what is going on that would be great.

It's been around for a long time, as have threads like these. They're usually caught very quickly, so many people don't notice them for a while.

... But you're right, I reported 3 or 4 posts in the last few minutes, and saw that 1-2 more were already reported, a new high for me.

Edit: Make that +3 more reported in the last 15 minutes.

Yep. It's been going on forever (at least as long as I've been on here) and it usually gets taken down pretty fast. Although you probably know this, if you see spam, help everyone out by clicking that caution icon in the upper right above every post and then reply "Reported" to the post.
