Event Schedule and Field Setup Friday Field/Event Setup: 1pm - 9pm Team Load In: 4pm - 8pm (if you need to come a bit later contact the event organizers, we can work things out). Saturday Doors Open: 7am (Teams may load in then if they didn't Friday Night) Opening Ceremonies: 8:15am Our plan is to play 7 qualifying matches per team and run a complete playoff bracket. The working plan is to have a lunch break between Noon and 12:30pm, this may change with the match schedule and the pace of the field. We are planning to wrap everything up no later than 6pm and have the event cleaned up by 9pm. We always appreciate people who are willing to help clean up the area after the event. As always the schedule is subject to change based on how the field is flowing, unexpected events, and other things. 5. Interviews Friday and Saturday We are looking for teams to volunteer to be interviewed for short segments about your robot design. Our goal is to show a few of these short ~1 min videos between matches so that people coming to the event learn a little more about robot construction. This would be similar to a short pitch you might give to a robot design judge. If you are interested in doing one of these interviews on Friday evening please send me an email. We will have a crew doing them Saturday as drive teams are leaving after their matches. 6. Team Information Survey We are asking that you please fill out this brief survey so we have a few more details about your team that we can use to make the event even better. We want to know your theme song, and favorite accomplishments, we want links to your chairman's videos, and recap videos and a nice picture of your robot. Please fill this out as soon as you can, we have had about 22 teams sign up. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/17xO...S8Qx8/viewform 7. Donations Reminder We will be accepting several categories for donations at this year's TRI. Legos, Books, Food, and Batteries LEGO Donation Drive for Sewa International All, We will be conducting a LEGO donation drive at TRI this year. The proceeds will be given to Sewa International, a nonprofit volunteer organization that focuses on providing family services and education to refugee and underserved communities in the United States as well as other countries. Specifically this is in partnership with Sewa Houston and their ASPIRE Tutorials, an after-school enrichment program designed to assist the learning and English skills of these refugee/minority children as they adapt to their new environment in the United States. Many of the students haven’t had the experience of playing with LEGOs like most of us, who at least know what they are even if we didn’t play with them as a child. As FIRST has shown through the FLL programs, LEGOs can be a great way to expose young children to STEM and as such we are conducting this drive to enable the ASPIRE Tutorial program to reach new levels of engagement with the students. We appreciate any donations, whether they are stray pieces that always get strewn across the floor for you to step on or complete LEGO sets, with instructions and the like. Thank you for your help! Abhishek Routray 2. Children's Book Drive for Books Between Kids Every child deserves to be a book owner TRI is collecting gently used books for Books Between Kids a non-profit organization founded in 2012 to serve Houston’s at-risk children by providing them with books to build their own home libraries. About 85% of Houston ISD’s elementary-aged children live at or below the poverty line. Priorities for these children and their families are food, clothing and shelter – all other items fall into the category of “want”. Research has shown that children growing up in homes without books, where books are considered a luxury, are less likely to complete a basic education than their peers who do have books available at home (University of Nevada, 2010). Help change this scenario by bringing your gently used books to TRI. 3. Canned Food Drive We will be collecting canned, boxed, and nonperishable food for the Houston Food Bank. 4. Battery Recycling Will be accepting all old batteries for recycling. FRC, VEX, FTC batteries, etc. Thank You Allen Gregory Spectrum FRC#3847 |
