FRC Toolchain for linux on Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial

Hello,

I have one of the newer ubuntu xenial distros, and the frc toolchain ppa is not compatible with said distro.. When I try to add the toolchain ppa, I get the following message:

"'This PPA does not support xenial'
Cannot add PPA: ''This PPA does not support xenial'"

Is xenial going to be a supported ubuntu distro in the future?

We will be supporting xenial in the future, certainly. However, for the moment, you can just manually add the ppa from vivid, and it will work just fine.

Re: FRC Toolchain for linux on Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial

Our team found that if you do a fresh install of 16.04 and then try to install via the PPA it won't work because some of the dependencies aren't available. However, if you have 14.04 and install the toolchain and then update to 16.04 the toolchain will continue working.

Has anyone else tried this? And if so did you get the same result?

I'm wanting to move programming to Linux, can someone give me an ELi5 until ubuntu 16.04/16.10 is supported?

(inb4 someone says I shouldn't be trying to do make the switch because I don't know how to do that)

Re: FRC Toolchain for linux on Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial

This was actually a rather easy fix. You just have to change the source file in /etc/apt/sources.d/
Steps:
1. sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list.d/wpilib-ubuntu-toolchain-xenial.list (use tab to autocomplete)
2. change out where it says 'xenial' (without the apostrophes) and replace it with 'trusty' (also without the apostrophes)
3. sudo apt-get update

This makes the machine pretend to be running 14.04 for only that one source. Worked for my team's machine.

Re: FRC Toolchain for linux on Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial

I recently ran into another issue installing on xenial. libisl13 has been removed from the xenial repos but some FRC stuff still depends on it. You can download the deb from https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/xenial/...ibisl13/0.14-2 and install it.
