Here are a couple renders of our 2014 robot which utilized a lot of versa tube.
The drive chassis was made of .040" 1x1 versa tube, while the catapult we had was mainly constructed of .100" 2x1 versa tube. Let me know if you have any questions about anything we did or just dealing with versa tube in general. ![]() ![]() |

We used the VersaFrame members and bearing block assemblies to build our suspension system this year, and it worked surprisingly well. This was our first year using these parts. Despite the complicated drivetrain layout, it was the easiest to maintain drivetrain we'd ever made and survived very well. We'll probably be using these parts on whatever drivetrains we make in the future, it's just so easy and bulletproof. And after that complicated drivetrain, a 6wd would be a breeze!
Here's a small gallery showing the prototype construction, as well as pics of the final frame and final assembly. We manufactured our own gussets to hold the frame members together. |
