Toughest Bot

Who thinks they have the toughest bot from this competition? I think we had the toughest bot.

The two toughest I have seen are 696 and 25. Both have fast drives and a lot of power. Definately not us, but we did push around 60 in the last match of SoCal finals :-)

we're very tough as in pushing power and robustness of our chassis, but not so much as in reliablility. I only got to see 25 in the finals...that bot was incredbally fast and really powerful. Could someone tell me hom many fps it was?

we on 930 had a tough robot in many senses. Our robustness was probably our highest attribute you can ask 65 who was one of our partners at midwest. You can also ask stang, who we beat at midwest and kept off the top also, watch semifinal 2 to see us. We had a decent autonomous clocking in at just under 5 seconds to the top. We had considerable strength with our six wheel drive. And finally we have yet to meet a bot that can push sideways up the ramp, we could keep anyone off with our little "ramp dance". I think we are the most robust second year team though. We NEVER took any damage.

Team 48 had a tough bot

While it wasn't always the fastest or most maneuverable bot out there, I'd like to give some "toughest bot" props to our robot - xtremachen6.

Delphi E.L.I.T.E.'s bot competed in 33 qualifying matches this season, racking up 23 wins - more than any other FIRST team. The TechnoTank-derived shift on the fly drivetrain never failed once. The wings and frame took constant abuse but never broke. The bot survived numerous inversions in Cleveland without a scratch (until the wheelie bar we added virtually eliminated that possibility). It defended numerous stacks and took hits from would-be stack topplers all year long. Very little mechanical maintenance or repair was ever required.

xtremachen6 won the Motorola Quality Award in Pittsburgh and the GM Industrial Design Award in Canada.

More often than not, the bot was on top of the ramp at the end of the match, pushing its share of robots off the ramp in the process.

Several robots have been flipped by XM6 during its charge for the bins in autonomous mode this year. Both of our opponents were pushed down the ramp during our last autonomous run Friday on Curie. One flipped over and the other almost joined them. And we were in high gear.

OK, so after all of that rah-rah stuff, I'd like to vote for Team 25's robot as the Toughest Bot of the year, with Team 322's bot as honorable mention.

13.6 fps with 6 inches air off the ramp.

Forgot to include my vote for toughest bot. 1089 was the one bot that consistently gave us pushing trouble- even managed to backdrive us once or twice WITH our brakes on. 103 and 87 also get honorable mentions, since they had bots that teamed up against us TWICE, giving a helluva match each time.

from the source- we calculated it at 13.6 FPS- 3.4 secs to the wall

It got away from us in programming at the school, ran up and over the ramp and flew about 8 feet through the air into a brick wall where it hit about 2 ft off the ground. It suffered no damage.

The bumpers on the front and back are supported out from the frame by a set of rubber stoppers. They are good shock absorbers.

The breaker trip in the finals was the ONLY mechanical problem we had since Annapolis. The team rebuilt our entire drill motor housing there because the tight turn in autonomous was flexing the motor mounts so much the drill housings were tearing themselves apart. Since then the machine was a pleasure to drive.

i would have to say 25 for speed and power.... 25 has beaten us and 103 in the mid-atlantic regional and now the curie division.... lets see how the private competitions turn out

With any luck, we'll be teamed.

I haven't seen 25 but I would agree with 696 being very tough.

That is one thing i am unsure of that 25 was tougher than ours, i was hoping that we would play them cause it was a passion of mine to test our drive train against other bots.

Even though our drive train is questionable on toughness i didnt see a frame as strong as ours. 2 x 4 aluninum channel. We didnt ever touch that frame after we made it.

what do you mean by "tough"? Our bot was really fast and strong, but not the fastest or strongest by any means. However, the one thing we had going for us was our durability! Our robot almost never broke down! We were so incredibly bored on thursday, that we started turning our backup robot into a cart to trasport our robot up the ramps...I mean, who else can say they have a cart that can shift on the fly? Actually, we never finished the cart, because we eventually got bored with the project. Seriously, our only repair was to switch out our wheels a couple times. After a couple regionals, there was too much wear and tear to be ignored, and two of the hubs cracked at west michigan. However, we were prepared and switching out the wheels only took about 5-10 minutes! Compared to last year, where we were making repairs %100 of the time, this year was awesome!
