4481's robot was incredibly ambitious and when it was functioning as intended, it was the best high goal shooter at the Tech Valley Regional. Unfortunately, as a result of their ambitious design, they never could consistently produce those results. Their program also very much deserved some sort of culture award for the awesome work they do.

I'll also agree with 2791- best robot from NY not to make Champs for sure. We were so disappointed we lost with them when we did at Finger Lakes.

Re: Best Robots Not To Qualify For Champs

I'll mention 624. As their alliance partners last year in Utah I know that CRyptonite builds quality robots, and they still did this year. They just barely missed out on wildcard slots at Rocket City and Lone Star, but their robot was still in Texas' top tier.

After their 2015 performance, that's a surprise!

Ditto. They almost made it at Sac. They really improved in their second Regional. They're a strong argument for Districts in CA. ;^)

Re: Best Robots Not To Qualify For Champs

From New England, 2877 & 3467 were two very capable machines who fell short of qualify for St. Louis. Ligerbots had a solid autonomous program aiding them in autonomous as well as teleop and Windham started peaking at the DCMP with 7-9 high goals. We had a very capable field who qualified but its a reality of the district system is that a lot of good robots who could find themselves in the elimination rounds in St. Louis don't qualify.

Thirded. 3250 had a great robot in 2016. Looking forward to watching it in action again during the offseason.

This was shocking to me as well, I really did like their robot again this year. They could cycle extremely well, which made them a very powerful force to be reckoned with.

They did make it to the Finals at Idaho, but lost to 3230. As no wildcards were generated, they were out of luck.

Re: Best Robots Not To Qualify For Champs

The district model resolves most of these issues. The combined points from the two district events, and district championships results in consistently high performing robots moving on to championships.

The regional model will normally result in consistent 2nd place finishers not moving on. The only way to correct this issue is for more areas to transition to the district model.

Thanks for the mention! Our robot performed fairly well at our first two events, but by NE Champs the sprockets in our tread-based drive system had worn to the point where the chain of our treads came off every match, and left us immobile for most games. We managed to fix this for the post-season (as can be seen from our performance at BattleCry), but by the end of NE Champs we were Rank 63 and didn't make it to Worlds by just a few spots.

Windham definitely had it rough as well, as they missed Worlds by just one spot with a fully functioning robot. As a scout during NE Champs, I remember being shocked by just how bad their luck was for alliances during Qualification matches.
