Re: Robowrangler Sheet Metal Giveaway Round 2

I will forever be jealous of the level of resources and expertise it requires to create the robots you guys make. 2 prototype chassis' in a season? Holy cow. I can't imagine being able to do that.

Keep inspiring us 148.

This was a prototype drive used in 2016 Stronghold to test the durability of #25 chain and 775 pro motors. This was also used to test our wheel configuration on the competition defenses.
Thanks for offering these parts up to teams, 558 would like to get our hands on some sheetmetal parts for sure. I noticed you say this was used for testing the 775pro motors in the drivetrain. Would 148 share what they learned? Thanks.

Our testing showed that the 775pro motors would function fine in the drivetrain. We had no issues with the motors. While we identified several specific failure points which would be fixed in the final design, these individual lessons contributed to the larger lesson of: "Overkill is totally appropriate for this game." That philosophy drove MANY decisions on the final robot including the decision to go with CIM motors in the drive, the addition of bearing plate doublers on the final drivetrain, the increase of material thickness in most locations, and more. Renegade is one of our toughest robots, in part because this chassis taught us we needed to build it that way.

We are overwhelmed with the number of responses we've received. We are going through all of the emails and will get back to everyone by tomorrow!

Madison... could you provide picture(s) or drawing(s) of bearing plate doublers?

Thanks!

They can actually be seen in the picture linked in the original post for the Renegade Drive rails. Looks like the sheet was just doubled up and riveted together. Link copied below.

Very interesting, can you share in the details of the gearbox design and ratios you tested. It seems a number of teams had varying success with the 775pros in drivetrains during the 2016 season. Thanks again.

It probably needs it's own thread to do it justice, as it's a pretty big subject and one that would be great to have some of the other users( I know 148 did not use them during the competition season) such as 3360, 16, 1296 and 3310 also share their thoughts( if they want to) in. Probably better to create a new thread than hi-jack a new one with what will inevitably be a big discussion that will be highly referenced by teams searching the forums in the future.

Re: Robowrangler Sheet Metal Giveaway Round 2

How funny, we've been doing the same thing. A lot of our old laser cut sheet metal from back in 2004 is now destined for a new home.

Except in our case, there is no new building we're moving into, and our stuff will likely go to the scrap yard to eventually be melted down.
