Can you use 2 Van Door motors?

In the design and calculation for our robot, we we're planning to use two Atwood and 2 van door motors. We used our calculations for these motors the entire time throughout building the bot. When it came time to final assembly(which was near the time we had to ship) we heard that we we're only allowed to use 1 van door on our robot. Because of this we switched out the van doors for the window motors. They gave us a lot of grief and it's because the machine was not design for them. I was reading through the forums and I saw somewhere that someone had used two. Is that legal? Could we have stayed with the two van doors? I would appreciate a reply even though it won't help us much now. Thanks.

Using two van door motors was most definitely not legal. If anyone used two, they were violating the rules, and should not have passed inspection. If they did, only luck (or ignorance on the part of the inspectors) got them passed.

2 van doors

only 1 van door was legal this year.

in 2001 you could have two van doors I think.

2002 didn't have van doors.

We got 2 van doors in our kit (probably a packing mistake) maybe that was the point of confusion for whoever said 2 van doors.

So it was a good thing you changed to window motors, because you can only have 1 van door.

i believe you could use 2 in 2001...you have to wait and see what they give in the kit next year. that will dictate what you can use

OK. Thanks for the replies. I would have been mad if we we're able to and changed it unnecessarily.

Actually, since the "official" competition season is over, you could put them back in if you want. Subject of course to the rules of any off season competitions you wish to attend. Some require robots to be FIRST legal and others do not.

But go ahead, put them back and see if you ideas really worked. That's what the so called off-season is for.

Only one Van Door motor is allowed. However, people frequently confuse the Van Door with the Window motor in conversation, so if you heard of a team using two of them, they were probably Windows.
