Nicely done!
So, which of the plethora of controllers available these days did you build this with?

Re: pic: Vision Aim Ping Pong Ball Robot

How about making other robots like these and making a dodgeball game? If you find a way to detect when you are hit, it could be fun to see a competition among autonomous robots with different strategies...

I'd love to see a close up of the shooting mechanism. Also is that a pixy cam I see being used for vision?

This is running off a chipkit wf32 board and programmed in full Labview. The base robot is from here http://www.playingwithfusion.com/pro...=65&catid=1009

I really like the idea of battles with other bots. It runs remote control with xbox controllers so we could setup match between people also. For the detection device we could have some catch on top like a Frisbee golf goal or something that you hit. I am not sure what would be good for a sensor to detect a target getting hit though. Any ideas.

The ping pong game would be fun but really hard but we might be able to do a Pong game where one robot shoots the ball and the other has to block the ball. That would get really interesting

Once i get home i can post some more detailed picture of the shooter. It is very simple and built from things just around the house. Good eye on the pixy camera. We are using that for vision. I am not to happy with it though it keeps loosing its configuration.

Re: pic: Vision Aim Ping Pong Ball Robot

Nice robot with a solid visioning system!
What do you mean by the pixy losing its configuration? I have used a pixy for several months without every needing to "remind' it of what settings I had set it up with in pixymon.

Thanks it was a lot of fun to make. Can not wait tell we have two going and we can play some type of game.

For the Pixy cam i will set the vision settings on my Laptop and run the robot for a little bit. When i turn the robot off and come back it will have lost the config about 50% of the time. I am not sure if i am doing something wrong or maybe browning out because i use to never have this problem.

What do you use your pixy cam for?

Re: pic: Vision Aim Ping Pong Ball Robot

For scorekeeping,

Detecting when an IR beam is blocked by a ball that falls into a funnel and then into a "detection pit" should be pretty easy (As easy as anything is in these situations).

To account for changing ambient light, instead of looking for a single pair of blocked/unblocked values, you could turn the IR transmitter on/off frequently, and keep track of the changes in received signals (when they stop changing, the beam is blocked (or the receiver is saturated)).

All my code is written in labview but i can post some screen shots once i get home. Basically i am just using a PD controller. i am using the P to get the robot to the position and the D to reduce overshoot / osculations.

Are you using motors or servo to turn your robot. Also what are you doing in your code to turn the robot

Here is a picture of the ping pong shooter. It is very simple just a servo and dc motor with a direct drive wheel. https://www.chiefdelphi.com/media/photos/43977?
