Bro you sure about that? Well used FIRST boulders are a lot more consistent than the multicolored Gopher balls. I'll find a way to bring a field's worth of boulders myself if it means no Gopher balls.

Logistics before promises That said, if you figure out a way, I'm sure we can find a use for them.

973 will bring 6 or more that are in good enough condition for play.

My experience with these balls is seeing teams with normally pretty good shooters miss most of their shots because the variation in density and compression differed enough from the grey Boulders to make a difference in the shots. Maybe it could work differently for CCC, but I really don't want a scenario where only a few teams who had the chance to tune their shooters to the new balls can shoot accurately and everyone else is left behind because their shooters are tuned to grey Boulders.

But like I said, maybe it'll be a non-issue. I hope that's the case. I really like seeing teams work.

Re: Capital City Classic 2016 - Registration Open

From the feedback I received from Cal Game, which admittedly was very little, and from our tests in our shop, the Gopher ball works a lot like the official ball. We have had to make zero adjustments to our robot(s) for them to perform well for us.

We have a set of 33 brand new, never used, Gopher Balls for the tournament. We will also have a few extra that we will have on the practice field for teams to test with.

I'll see if Beach Blitz has any normal balls we can contribue. We're bringing back the AV equipment to 254 this weekend. No promises though. Will do my best

Re: Capital City Classic 2016 - Registration Open

Hey ya'll!

Sorry for the hassle related to the Gopher Balls everyone.

We recognize the situation is not ideal, but there are significant costs associated with using brand new FIRST Boulders over Gopher Balls.

We will have a half practice field at the venue, open Friday evening, with plenty of gopher boulders for teams to calibrate their robots with.

If you want to know, we were hesitant to spend more money than needed this year since we lost nearly $2,000 on CCC last year. Now, we love doing CCC, love the teams, love everything about it, but that was a tough bullet to bite. We've been conservative this year for that exact reason, and hope to make CCC sustainable for years to come, including the many scholarships we give to local teams that wouldn't be able to come to CCC otherwise.

Thank you to everyone offering new/lightly used official FIRST boulders. I think we will continue to to plan on using gopher balls, but if this is a make or break issue for your specific team, please PM ASAP and we can discuss.

Thanks all,

-Mike

Hi, All. 2122 (Team Tators) plan on doing some scouting at CCC, we were wondering how people with multiple bots are numbering theirs. We are numbering our second bot as 212, cutting the last number off. Also, to the pre-rookie team, Valkyrie Robotics, your number would be helpful as well. By the way, congrats on joining FIRST. See you all at the competition,

The Tators

Typically we set the first number on a "second" robot to "9".
So, 2073's second robot is 9073.
212 for your second is fine, but the issue is, 212 is a legit team number, thus your team details from TBA will not reflect your team. Since that is the case, we will likely list your second as 9122.
