Summer Robot Institute
Once again WPI is sponsoring a 2-week residence robotics course for rising high school juniors and seniors. It is specifically designed to bring new FIRST team members up to speed as well as to provide the broadening education essential for experienced folks to assume team leadership.
As a 12-year sponsor veteran of the FIRST Robotics program, WPI has a unique perspective on what it takes to design, build, and operate competitive robots. Using state-of-the-art equipment in WPI's Robotics Lab, participants will learn the "nuts-and-bolts" about sensors, DC motors, transmissions, programming (especially autonomous operations!), pneumatics, linkages, etc, as well as team dynamics and strategies. As part of a broader "Frontiers" summer program, participants will also have a full schedule of optional communication workshops and entertainment activities to choose from. The 40 students selected for the robotics area will be divided into four teams who will actually design, manufacture, and operate their four creations in a final head-to-head competition. For further information about this program see http://www.wpi.edu/Admin/AO/Frontiers/ or give just me a call.
