High praise coming from the Milkman!

The students put a lot of effort in, and it was a nice pre-season activity. Maybe something will come of it, to help some funding, but otherwise, it has brought some pride to our school lunch service, who initiated our involvement, and we get to display it in the school to promote STEM, sustainability, and renewable materials.

Also here is the entry essay (200 word max):

A student said, "Go big, or go home" and nothing is bigger than space, and our entry modeled off the famous TV starship, symbolizes the challenges we face both on and off this planet. Collecting milk cartons itself and re-purposing it for our entry was a lesson in otherwise wasted materials, and let students think about other daily use items that are being thrown away. The wood and wood screws were mostly salvaged from prior years team projects, and the wood frame gave a strong structure to a spacecraft that normally floats in zero gravity space. Working together on this project helped developed teamwork skills that will get used in future robotic competitions. In small, but meaningful ways, this project inspired the students, from the lead designer developing a carton-by-carton "Minecraft-like" model of the starship, to the project lead working to get others involved, to all the students that helped create it learning to safely use tools in our shop. Finally, as this next generation prepares to invent and explore their universe, they will need nourishment where ever they go, however boldly, and to accomplish this even milk cows will need to go where none have gone before.

Thanks to anyone adding their vote or sharing it! Here's a sticker.
