Java Networking with driverstation

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with creating a socket connection between the robot and the driver station(Computer). I know one can use network tables to relay information between the host computer and the robot but has anyone had any luck with alternative networking solutions?

Thanks,
Mike

Re: Java Networking with driverstation

We have communicated between the driver station and robot over sockets. We use Java's Socket class (java.net.Socket) to do it. To make it competition legal, you just have to make sure to use one of the legal TCP ports outlined in the game manual. The IP of the robot is generally in the format 10.TE.AM.2, with TEAM being your team number (i.e. for my team, the IP is 10.19.2.2). Let me know if you need help using Sockets, I've used them quite a bit and would be happy to help
