We had climbing in 2016, so I doubt 2017 is likely to have climbing, at least not straight up. I think there's a chance of similarities to 2010, so maybe a chain of robots hanging from other robots? Or something like the bridges in 2012(weight-driven platforms, anyone?) I thought cubes could be a possibility for game pieces, maybe dice. There are Rubik's cubes of two different sizes in AndyMark's recent video. Maybe dice of varying types/sizes will be used as coal or something else. As for the flying, I'm Rocket Copters have a chance of being game pieces. They have LEDs, and they're inexpensive, but entertaining.

sorry if I missed the memo, but was there a game hint I missed that involved denim or is denim just a fun joke

Google images for Dean Kamen; that should explain everything.

Take note that the original denim posts were in 2014 predicting 2017...

I think it's a joke, base on the fact that Dean often wears denim.

They made a rule where we can't throw paper airplanes into the field.

It's confirmed, paper airplanes are this year's core mechanic

2017 Game Speculation

Just saw this on the website for the Silicon Valley kickoff:

Quote:
The kit will include:

1 tote box (all teams) + 1 extra tote box for Rookie teams
1 battery (+1 extra for Rookies)
1 Drive train (if ordered)
4 metal tubes about 4' long
1 Other small package
What could the tubes and the small package be?

No inside knowledge, but I'm guessing FIRST heard the cries about the field from this last year, and is giving teams part of a key field element.

If this year's KOP is like last year's KOP, those 4 tubes will be aluminum stock: https://firstfrc.blob.core.windows.n...rate-items.pdf
