Team 3494 CAD Release
I worked on two different base designs over the past two months. The first was inspired by 118's 2016 drive base but with slightly modified nanoboxes instead of custom gearboxes. The second was a basic WCD design, since my team has never done a WCD. I apologize for the bad pictures, but I was unable to access the team CAD laptops over winter break. Enjoy!

Wonderful utilization of COTS parts to create world-class drivetrains. What center drop are you using on both drivetrains? Also, I wonder what the hidden gearbox is lol.

The round one has different mounting plates for 1/16, 1/8 or 3/16 drop center. The other is cut for 1/8 in the 8WD 4in configuration. The gearbox is TBD. Lots of mounting holes that fit many different gearboxes.

Both of these designs look great. Just a few questions though. Are the drive belts/chains on the inside of the bottom frame tubes? Will round drivetrain have shifting gearboxes or just single speed? Will there be any extra support for the CIMs? I'm just worried about them sagging and ruining the drivetrain in the process.

The round drive base uses tough box nanos from AM. Because I am using the gearbox as a spacer, the distance between the motor input and the drive shaft needs to be larger than what most off the shelf gearboxes have. A way to have a shifting gearbox instead is to do a custom one, but my team is not ready to put that much time into a gearbox. We have never had any issues with sagging CIMs. I'm sure that it can happen, but in both cases we are using all the mounting holes provided. The way that these gearboxes are mounted are basically the same as we have done in past years. I do not foresee this being a problem on either design. |
