Assuming the rules of 2016, you can use whatever programming you want on the RIO. However, you must use the updated 2017 roboRIO image and firmware. WPIlib may have issues with this. Most of the changes are pretty minor, including the CAN Talon stuff. It's simply been moved to another area and not included by default, though I may be wrong. So the answer is yes, as far as I know, just you have to take into account compatablility with the roboRIO, the driver station, and other people helping you code.

The CAN Talon SRX features are the same, but you have to include CANTalon.h in every piece of code using it.

2016 WPILib will almost certainly not work on the 2017 image, due to various libraries and other internals changing.
Just port your code to use the 2017 implementation, chances are it won't be much work unless you're doing deep magic. |
