I'm not terribly familiar with what AndyMark First Choice usually stocks but I thought it was interesting that that emphasize it.

I actually did mean overdrive, where minibots would be playing some version of it, like the minibots score by making laps around the feild.

Re: Five Person Drive team in 2017

For those who think we are getting 5 drive team buttons as part of our kickoff kit, and thus contains an extra. The event experience (formally part of the admin manual) was released today, and a portion of E33 states that we will receive drive team and safety buttons at the event. Check out that manual here

Someone on my team suggested that the other pin could be for the programmer when they need to fix something so you don't risk disqualification

In previous years if a programmer wanted to come into queue to push updates or whatever they had to be a drive team member. Or at least one of the drive team members had to give up their button until the programmer finished and and returned it so there was never more than 4 people from a given team in the field area (five counting media sometimes). I don't see what element of the game would call for that to differ this year, and if the difference doesn't give an insight into the game I don't see why Dave wouldn't include info about the change in the blog post along with the picture.

I heard the flying minibots sometimes can lose connection and lose code easily

On a serious note, I agree. We always make sure our drivers know what to do for communication issues and things like that. They don't know how to code, but I don't think you really have time to rewrite code when trying to start a match.

When I was head programmer (for 3 years) I had to rewrite/redeploy auton code in queue a number of times. One time I even had to redeploy on the field because the last deploy got corrupted so we had no robot code at all. Luckily I was a driver anyway so it didn't matter, but in that case if I weren't I would have stolen a driver pin and went out as a driver until the problem were fixed.

Re: Five Person Drive team in 2017

We always make sure that a programmer is either on the drive team, or at least one person on the drive team knows how to at least deploy existing code.

If this is true could lead to a problem with our 4 student member team

Your drive coach is allowed to be an adult mentor, which I assume you have at least one of.

Typical disclaimer about possible, but unlikely rule changes.

General rules never eliminate one-year-specific possibilities. Citation/Example: FIRST did not require bumpers in 2015.
