Question G04 - Confused!!

I am confused by one of the rules.
Don’t overextend yourself. A ROBOT may not exceed the volume for which it passed
Inspection during the MATCH.
Violation: FOUL. If strategic, (e.g. expansion results in t he TOUCHPAD being triggered), RED
CARD.
Does this mean we can not extend ourselves to dump coal into a boiler? (We were thinking of using a dumping technique for the high goal.)
Thanks,
Taggerun

Re: Confused!!

I think you could re-watch the game reveal video and see if any of the example robots extend past their original perimeters. It's safe to assume that robots can't extend beyond their original perimeters, even for scoring.

Re: Confused!!

Did you read the rule about inspections? Did you read the rule about the size of the robot? I know you know about what volume is.

So what do you think the answer is?

Re: Confused!!

The volume is the maximum extended volume of the bot. The frame perimeter can be less than this, but any post-starting configuration extensions cannot exceed the robot volume.

I'd be careful about using the game animation as a accurate representation of the game. In years past the animation has included scoring errors and many illegal robots. The final word for FRC rules is the manual and the Q&A

system201 can only hope to improve
Re: Confused!!

You can, but not that high, you can only extend things as long as they remain within the size that the rules specify, and as long as your robot is smaller than that size.

So no, you can't extend to dump into high goal, but yes you can extend

One of the robots in the animation for this year violates rule G24. "Don’t throw GEARS at all. A ROBOT may not LAUNCH a GEAR"

Re: Confused!!

Just a heads up, a thread title like "Confused!!" does not alert members to the content of the thread. Referencing a rule or subject will better alert members to the issue.
