Climbing Endgame
So according to Section 3.8, we're allowed to bring our own rope. Can the rope be knotted or designed in any way to grant more purchase?
And technically, would using a chain be allowed? It doesn't forbid it, right? |

Re: Climbing Endgame
I would highly suggest reading Section 9. Particularly rule I04.

Re: Climbing Endgame
Rope rules are in section I04. As far as I can tell, they can be knotted or designed to give more purchase, but they must "consist entirely of flexible, non-metallic fibers", which would make a chain illegal.

Re: Climbing Endgame
chains are not allowed it says the rope must be flexible and have no metallic material

Re: Climbing Endgame
So velcro would be considered rope?

Re: Climbing Endgame
As long as your velcro is less than an inch wide, between 5'#" and 8' long, and doesn't stick up more than 12" above where it's held, then yes according to I04. I don't remember any other rules other than I04 that apply to this, but I would still ask the Q&A when it's opened to make sure before you design your whole robot around an idea that the GDC later rules illegal.

Re: Climbing Endgame
If you can find velcro where both the backing and the hooks are woven together, it would "consist entirely of flexible, non-metallic fibers twisted, tied, woven, or braided together"

Re: Climbing Endgame
Would knots throughout the rope (at every x inches) be considered consistent and flexible?
