Shooting High in Auto - movement required?
For those who have carefully laid out field elements over the weekend:
Is it possible to shoot in the high goal without moving in auto? If so, are there multiple locations along the starting wall to do so? |

Yes, and Yes, if the robot is designed to do it.

Re: Shooting High in Auto - movement required?
I believe any of three robots along the alliance wall could potentially do this, only a few inches are cut off the top of the boiler by the vertical netting post from that perspective.

Re: Shooting High in Auto - movement required?
You would still have to account for the precision needed make that kind of autonomous program always get the high. Also, you would need to do it within the 15 second autonomous window, which would be very hard to do.

Re: Shooting High in Auto - movement required?
Since you must cross BASELINE for 5points in auto ,I see no advantage to shooting from bad angle of back wall since you must move forward at some point anyhow to collect 5..

Re: Shooting High in Auto - movement required?
G23. Shoot FUEL from your own LAUNCHPAD. A ROBOT may only LAUNCH FUEL while in their
LAUNCHPAD (i.e. at least breaking the plane of the line with BUMPERS). For the purposes of FIRST® STEAMWORKSSM, LAUNCHING is defined as shooting in the air, kicking or rolling across the floor with an active mechanism, or throwing in a forceful way. A ROBOT that has bumped FUEL has not LAUNCHED it. Violation: FOUL. Repeated or extended violations of this rule are li kely to escalate rapidly to YELLOW or RED CARDS. |

Re: Shooting High in Auto - movement required?
Knowing the exact position of your robot prior to shooting is an advantage. Also, nothing says you can't shoot and then cross the baseline. Just need to save yourself a few seconds at the end of auto to drive.

Re: Shooting High in Auto - movement required?
The advantage of shooting them first before moving would be that you would giving the fuel time to process in the boiler before the autonomous timer hits zero

Re: Shooting High in Auto - movement required?
It's similar to what we did by shooting auto in the spy zone last year, being able to manually aim your robot every time makes you 100% accurate.

Re: Shooting High in Auto - movement required?
If you are furthest away from the boiler every time ..."perhaps" but doubtful IMO...this is not like last year where it was straight in from the spy. Closer to boiler because of plexi highly doubtful. But I'm sure some teams will do it from far away.

EDIT: Just realized I was confusing the LAUNCHPAD with the KEY... G23 shouldn't be an issue here, carry on. Last edited by Kpchem : 09-01-2017 at 14:58. Reason: Mixed up some field definitions. Oops! |
