if you have the correct spring can you test something for us?

If any of you have the correct spring can you please tell the rest of us
how far on the spring the gear has to be to be supported so it does not bend the spring and slide off?
Thanks

Re: if you have the correct spring can you test something for us?

There is a hook on the end of the spring to help retain the gear, so a gear can be successfully supported by the very end of the spring, and the spring doesn't bend much.
It is possible for the hook to get turned in the spring though, so the pilots should be checking the hook orientation and correct it as necessary. It can be twisted by hand with a little effort.

P.S.
Added a second photo showing the gear delivery into the cockpit. You can see the hook at the end of the spring (cut off a bit by the photo framing).

Mark,
You have posted several great pictures of the field. Do you have any other key images you can share? I'm especially interested in the view from the driver stations.

Thanks,
David

Re: if you have the correct spring can you test something for us?

I'm afraid the field in Manchester was pretty crowded for panoramic views from the Driver Station to be of any use.
I had to leave before the field cleared out, because I was driving into the snow storm. As it was it took me 8.5 hours to get home from Kickoff with road closings and slippery conditions.

Here's what the drivers would see if the match had several hundred people in it...

Thanks Mark... Need to check the fire code capacity of that field!

Maybe someone already posted about this and I couldn't find it, but could you say if anyone dumped a couple bins worth of fuel in the high goal.

No one was tall enough (9 feet) to do that, and it only operates during a match.
