NEED OLD MECANUMS FOR 2017 DRIVE TRAIN

We are team URSA MAJOR, 2849, from Hammond High School in Columbia, MD.
We are designing a 4WD mecanum drive train this year, but the wheels we currently have are the old 8 inch mecanum wheels, 2.5 inches across. Starting last year, AndyMark stopped offering them, and only sells 8 inch mecanums that are 3.5 inches across. If anyone has the 8 inch mecanum wheels that are 2.5 inches across, please reply to this thread or contact us.

The drivetrain that we designed is built around the 2.5 inch wide 8 inch mecanum wheels, and we only have 4 of them.We already designed a drivetrain using the old mecanums, and dont want to have to buy 2 new sets and also have to rework the drivetrain. We would really appreciate if anyone who has a set of old mecanum wheels, 8 inches in diameter, and 2.5 inches across could reply back, and we could work out a sale or exchange.

Thanks for your help,
Ursa Major

Out of curiosity, where are the design files for your drivetrain posted? It may be that the community could help you find an easy way to modify it for the new wheels! After all, with a limited supply of the old ones, you don't want to end up in a situation where they break and you have no backup!

At our meeting tonight I will check to see if we have any of the old 8-inch diameter, 2.5-inch mechanums. I think we have a might have a few of that size laying around, and if we do I don't see why we would need them, but I'll need to check with our mechanical team first. I will contact you later today with more details.

If there is anything else you guys need don't hesitate to send me a PM. Can't wait to see you guys at Greater DC in only 2 months!

Re: NEED OLD MECANUMS FOR 2017 DRIVE TRAIN

Have you tried looking at the VEX 8" Mecanums?

Re: NEED OLD MECANUMS FOR 2017 DRIVE TRAIN

Ursa,
While not convenient, I think you can still buy the parts needed to build the older style 8" AM mecanums:
- 1 bag of rollers for the 4 wheels
- 8 plates
- 4 sets of spacers
- (24) 1 /4” stainless steel washers, 0.04” thick per wheel
- (12) #10-32 x 3.0 inch-long screws per wheel
- (12) #10-32 nylock nuts per wheel
- (6) #10-32 screws and nuts to mount hub of choice - length depends on mounting

You could look into this vendor as well.

Have you considered the VEXpro mecanums?

Hope this helps. Let me know if there is anything else I can do.
Nate

Re: NEED OLD MECANUMS FOR 2017 DRIVE TRAIN

Thirded on the VexPro mecanums. We used them for Recycle Rush and didn't have any complaints. They should be narrow enough for your requirements, too.

Any reason you're not looking at 6 or 4 inch? The field's flat this year and half the diameter is half the gearbox or belt reduction. You should be able to run 4" mecanums with the Vex clamping gearbox, even.

We may have an old set of lightly used 8 inch AM Mecanums from 2011. PM if still pursuing.
