Diamond Plate?

The term "Alliance Wall Diamond Plate" is used for starting placement. I think it means the part of the Alliance Wall in front of your team. Is there a "diamond" on the Alliance Wall in front of your team?

Re: Diamond Plate?

From my understanding, yes. Googling "diamond steel plate" comes up with that pattern on that is on the alliance wall. I really wish they would define it in the manual though...

Correct, but not along the angled boiler or retrieval station

Diamond plate is a fairly standard industry term (it even has its own wikipedia page). Why would it need a separate definition provided by FIRST?

You would have to know that the Alliance Wall is made of Diamond Plate. I searched the Basic Field, Field Assembly, and Field Components drawings for "diamond" and did not find any hits.

I thought maybe there was a diamond shaped logo in front of each team, and you would have to be touching that "diamond plate".

Re: Diamond Plate?

Its certainly reflective in release video , so I believe it to be industrial (some metal) diamond plate
Looks like it runs all the way across wall then it angles. This means you can start in key , launchpad or retrieval zone as long as in contact with the diamond plate

You're looking in all the wrong places. It's right in the Rules:

Quote:
3.11.1 PLAYER STATION A PLAYER STATION is one (1) of three (3) assigned positions in an ALLIANCE WALL from where a DRIVE TEAM operates their ROBOT. Each PLAYER STATION is made from a 3 ft. (~91 cm) tall diamond plate panel base topped with a 3 ft. 6 in. (~107 cm) tall transparent plastic panel. An aluminum shelf is attached to each PLAYER STATION to support the DRIVE TEAM’S OPERATOR CONSOLE. The shelf is 5 ft. 9 in. (~175 cm) wide and 1 ft. (~30 cm) deep. There is a 4 ft. 6 in. (~137 cm) long by 2 in. (nominal) wide strip of hook-and-loop tape (“loop” side) along the center of the support shelf that may be used to secure the OPERATOR CONSOLE to the shelf.
(emphasis mine)

Even further to your point, the Stronghold manual has identical wording.

Quote:
A PLAYER STATION is one (1) of three (3) assigned positions behind a CASTLE WALL from where a
DRIVE TEAM operates their ROBOT. Each PLAYER STATION is made from a 3 ft. tall diamond plate
panel base topped with a 3 ft. 6 in. tall transparent plastic panel. An aluminum shelf is attached to
each PLAYER STATION to support the DRIVE TEAM’S OPERATOR CONSOLE. The shelf is 5 ft. 9 in.
wide and 1 ft. deep. There is a 4 ft. 6 in. long by 2 in. wide strip of hook-and-loop tape (“loop” side)
along the center of the support shelf that may be used to secure the OPERATOR CONSOLE to the
shelf.
It's just referring to diamond patterned steel.
