Glacier is an unknown quantity at this point
What do y'all think is the best method of transporting fuel via different systems?

Looking back at past competitions the Archimedes screw or a screw like device that channels game pieces in a rotating fashion within a robot, has proven to be effective in storing and scoring balls. With the new volume constraints is it highly probable to be used?

Ever learning...

Re: What do y'all think is the best method of transporting fuel via different systems

Personally I don't think so. The screw type hopper shines when you have an abundance of vertical height and space which was available in other games (2009,2006,2012). My big issue with the screw system is it requires indexing/funneling the balls before they enter the screw system unlike other hopper designs (1114 2006 2009, 254 2012,341 2012). This can be very difficult to do without jamming. Additionally the screw hopper cannot double up as a collector for balls from the loading station.

I think a hopper would be pretty effective. The balls are very small relative to the robot, so a large box could hold quite a few balls without needing to index them before they are put into the hopper. I think gravity fed hoppers are a lot harder to design without jamming than actively fed hoppers. Yes it is possible, but it requires non symmetrical choke points, which tend to eat up space. I've been thinking about a hopper with a plexiglass bottom and several polychord belts that run at high speeds towards the flywheel elevator. This would allow controlled feeding that doesn't rely as heavily on gravity. It also means the floor could be almost flat, saving space. This would work well with a 3-4 ball wide flywheel. Last year's vex game was shooting similar sized balls, and the most prominent design was to use a flywheel with a lot of mass, a decent amount of contact time, and very little compression.

If you ask me, agitators will also be important this year. Ri3D 1.0 tried a wheel, Archimedes screw, and blender, and neither seemed outstandingly successful. (the blender won in the end)
