Re: Carpet Type For FRC?

Per the rulebook, page 18:

Quote:
The carpet used for the FIELD is green (Shaw Floors, Philadelphia Commercial, Neyland II 20, 30352, “Scotch Pine”).

Re: Carpet Type For FRC?

Standard office low pile carpet will work fine. The kind you see in classrooms and offices. Just because it is in the manual does not mean it is useful information to every team guys. They asked what TYPE, not the name, model number, and brand. Seriously, it was a legitimate question, chill.

I prefer to give people all (if not more) available information that might be necessary for the response to their question (noting that I am not psychic and may not always see the actual intent behind their question). With the name, model number and brand they can investigate the official field carpet and the properties of it. If they decide that they don't need the exact model then they can investigate what is an acceptable, to them, substitute. Not knowing their school/sponsor, I do not feel comfortable suggesting they practice with "standard" carpet because they might not get the experience they are wanting.

Re: Carpet Type For FRC?

I know in the past you could purchase the right type of carpet in stock at many Home Depot stores though not necessarily in the color specified for a given year. It looks like you are in Michigan. Areas that are in the District system go through a lot of carpet as FIRST limits the use to two events. In the PNW district we do our best to give away the carpet to teams at the second event, we really don't want to pack it up, truck it to the warehouse and then throw it away. So this season be sure to inquire to see if you can take home a piece for practice next year. The particular model of carpet has not changed in recent years even though the color has so there is a good chance that it will be relevant next season. Note we do keep some of it for use at off season events and then it is often kept by the team hosting the event or sections of it may be given away there.
