Fuel Auto?
Anyone thinking of doing a fuel based autonomous? Particularly anyone planning a gear+fuel autonomous? Anyone think that's possible?

Re: Fuel Auto?
Definitely possible. I expect great teams will be able to always score fuel and a gear in auto, or get some fuel from the nearest hopper and score even more in autonomous

Re: Fuel Auto?
Many teams are thinking about it. About the same number of people are planning it. I guarantee it's possible, and more will be possible in autonomous. The end result may really swing how the rest of the match gets played out.

Re: Fuel Auto?
So the actual path would obviously be less curvier, but this is a possible auton routine I came up with for our team. Basically, the gear manipulator is on the back of the robot and the shooter shoots to the side opposite of it. So a team can place a gear on the peg, move forward to the boiler or stay in the relatively same position and shoot.

Re: Fuel Auto?
I've wondered how feasible is might be to take advantage of that 3x multiplier and immediately run over to one of the dump stations, fill up, make a bunch of high goals and get your 40 points + 1 Qualifying point in Auto, then spend the rest of the match focusing on gears and defense.
If you think about it, if you're the only robot on your alliance that can place a gear in auto, you should, and if you and both of your partners can place a gear in auto, you should. However, there's no real benefit to having only 2 robots place gears in auto, so in that scenario if you can get that qualifying point in the first 15 seconds of the match (or even get it really close) you free up resources for the next 2 minutes. Just a thought. |

Re: Fuel Auto?
It is very beneficial to shoot in the boiler in auto. I think if you build a shooter that can shoot fast enough, there shouldn't be a problem shooting high after placing a gear (maybe you don't get off 1 or 2 shots). At no other time in the game can you get that efficiency in the boiler. If you want to try and get the 40 kPa you basically have to shoot in auto.

Re: Fuel Auto?
I believe autonomously we are leaning more the gear but for sure fuel is not out of the question. For us it will depend on how much time our programmers have with the robot.
