Re: How to get gears fast

H08 prohibits the ability to pass the gears into the opposing Alliance Station from your Loading Lane. However it does not prevent you from loading gears into the robots of the Opposing Alliance.

The first person has no idea what he is talking about. The other team is NOT going to give you their gear!

This estimate seems very optimistic to me, especially when you consider defense. In fact I think gear bots will be a very attractive target for defense even during qualification matches this year

Re: How to get gears fast

I like how working with the other alliance to earn mutually beneficial ranking points in some years is considered "coopertition" and working with the other alliance to earn mutually beneficial ranking points in other years is considered "collusion."

I think I'll just go on the offensive and tell teams they are not in the spirit of coopertition if they don't want to work with me.

It depends on the game, the scenario, and if it's designed in. 2015 is a prime example. The Coopertition totes were the "allowed and approved" method. The noodles were something the teams came up with, and the GDC nerfed it. In 2016 there really wasn't anything. 2012 had the coop bridge, which had its own collusions...

Basically, if it's part of the game challenge and designed in as such, it's coopertition. If it's not part of the original game challenge, it's collusion. (Not official definitions, just what I've observed the reactions being.)

Re: How to get gears fast

2015 was a weird animal because of how ranking worked. I would not expect to see anything like the noodle agreement this year. One team getting the gear ranking point does not benefit the other team at all. Additionally, a team getting all four rotors running is going to result in a lot of points potentially winning the match and depriving their opponents of 2 ranking points. Unlike in 2015 where ranking was entirely based off of average match score. Your ranking was almost independent of your opponents score. This is not true this year where the largest component(50%) of your ranking is the relative score. Helping your opponents during a match to score points is not going to be beneficial to you this year.

Not only that its back and forth ..... possibly 6 sec +2 but another 6sec +2 and another 6sec + 2 before another cycle... thats 24 seconds not to mention defense and sight.

In weeks 1 and 2 , I expect a dedicated good gear bot to place about 3 gears max successfully before endgame climb....

later season Top teams might be able to 7 or 8 before climb

Re: How to get gears fast

I honestly feel that a floor pickup could be the fastest way to get a gear. Also, opens up the opportunity for a *cough* 3 gear autonomous .
