Lenght of usable rope from scoring plate to end.
We know the rope must be 5'3" to 8' from the retaining knot to the end. So the question is what is the distance from the davit retaining feature to the point the robot scores the climb. I assume less than 29" since no knots can be in this zone. I haven't been able deduct the range the end of the rope can be presented for the robot to gather or into the climb subsystem.

Re: Lenght of usable rope from scoring plate to end.
I was curious about the same thing, so I looked through the field component drawings.
On page 74, I found GE-17081 Upper Arm, which is the component of the DAVIT that we are interested in. Its ordinate dimensions indicate that the back of the fingers, where the knot will be stopped, is 3.25" from the edge at which the rope bends 90 degrees down. Vertically, that edge is 18.19" from the lowest point of the Upper Arm. So we will need 21.44" of rope between the knot and that point. Looking at Fig. 3-19 on page 27 of the Manual, it appears to me that the TOUCHPAD assembly is mounted with its lower surface flush to the lowest point on the Upper Arm, but I cannot find a drawing that clearly indicates this. Rule I04-F required that the top knot be at least 29" from the retaining knot. So my best guess is that the highest knot that a robot could touch while climbing a legal rope will be 29 - 21.44 = 7.56" below the TOUCHPAD. Someone please check this and correct me. |

Re: Lenght of usable rope from scoring plate to end.
Approximately 20" estimated from these photos if they help visualize it at all:

Note that the C-channel the rope lies in extends to the base of the touchpad and that the touchpad when pressed leaves the channel for the robot to possibly contend with if your hoist is at the tippy top of your robot. |

Thanks, Mark!
Pictures really help. I wish my team were closer to a kickoff that has a real field. |

If we use 7.5" from touch pad to top of a knot (29" from retaining knot), top of that knot would be 4' 2.5" from floor. That correct? |

Thanks for pics. Confirms the location, and brings up the issue of the c-channel. Appears as though it could block depression of the plate by a simple winch if the winch is highest point. That is very interesting (and troubling at the moment!). |
